Exasperated by the illegal deposits on the public highway, the Limoges agglomeration declares war on garbage.
It is launching a shock campaign with the aim of empowering citizens and curbing incivility.
From the month of May, each important illegal deposit will be materialized and transformed into a “
crime scene
” thanks to famous yellow and black rubalises, borrowed from the codes of the thriller.
According to Sarah Gentil, vice-president of the metropolis of Limoges in charge of waste policy, “
Each week, nearly ten tons are collected in the streets of Limoges and its agglomeration.
It is unacceptable.

The crimes of illegal deposits take place mainly at night. "
On the sidewalks, in the middle of the streets, at the bottom of buildings, near waste collection centers, near parks and gardens,
" says the elected member of
Le Figaro
, who adds that "
the phenomenon was accentuated during confinement.
"From now on, each illegal deposit will be surrounded by yellow and black bands (police investigation type)."
This staging of crime aims to challenge the perpetrators of these incivilities
"indicates Sarah Gentil. They incur in case of non-compliance with the rules, up to 1500 euros fine.
In parallel with this targeted operation, several “
posters
” in the “
black series
” spirit
will also be exhibited throughout the city.
This awareness campaign will last one month.
A cost of 500,000 euros
"
This scourge has an exorbitant cost: for 500 tonnes per year, it costs taxpayers around 500,000 euros
", deplores Sarah Gentil. The interventions necessary for these incivilities represent additional working time for agents: "
more than 15,000 hours of work each year (already 6,000 hours since January 1, 2021)
", according to the Limoges Métropole urban community. “
People have developed bad habits. With the health crisis, more and more masks are being collected,
”said the elected official.
Many cities are confronted with this growing phenomenon. Like Limoges, the city of Avignon launched an unprecedented campaign in early February to fight against these illegal practices. Camera traps have been set up in the city to confuse the culprits, reports France Bleu
