One hunter is convinced: he has observed and photographed a wolf near Aßling.

An expert supports this assessment.

The region is in a state of excitement.

Aßling

- The distance was 74 to 80 meters, Andreas Schwarz measured it in the Bavaria Atlas.

That's how close he got to the animal before it shied away.

The 46-year-old estimates he spent ten minutes watching it with binoculars.

How it stood on the meadow between Niclasreuth (municipality of Aßling and Antersberg (municipality of Tuntenhausen) and looked back at him. How it jumped into an overgrown ditch - presumably to drink - so that only the back line protruded from the blades of grass. Andreas Schwarz was long and looked closely. He says: "I am 100 percent sure that this is a wolf."

Wolf spotted in the district of Ebersberg: Ten minutes face to face with the predator

The fact that Schwarz is so sure is also due to the fact that he knows his way around.

He is a hunter, once ran a dog school and trained hunting dogs.

And for that purpose books by the animal behaviorists Konrad Lorenz and Erik Ziemen rolled over.

He is convinced that what he saw on Tuesday morning at around 9.30 a.m. on the meadow near Aßling not far from a glider airfield between Bach and Jägerstand was not a husky or a malamute.

"The body line, the coat color: it has nothing to do with a dog."

Because of this knowledge, his neighbor had called him, who wanted to know exactly what dog-like was going on in the meadow in front of their farm.

The closer Schwarz got, the greater the excitement and certainty.

He won't forget the ten minutes face to face with the predator anytime soon.

“I looked at him and he looked at me too,” says the hunter.

Or rather: she.

Because while Schwarz had put his binoculars on the wolf from the car window, the animal let water.

He identified it as a female, i.e. a she-wolf.

Well fed, strong, large and stable.

As Black ventured closer, the animal backed away.

“She tried to classify me,” says the hunter about the moments with the wolf, before the animal had enough and disappeared into the nearby undergrowth.

Despite the blurry photos: an expert assesses the wolf sighting in Ebersberg as credible

The state representative for nature conservation of the Bavarian State Association for Bird Protection (LBV), Andreas von Lindeiner, has no doubt about the sighting.

"The posture, the saddle mark on the back and the light throat area speak for it," he says, looking at the blurry photos that Andreas Schwarz was able to take quickly with his smartphone.

He could not be 100 percent sure because of the photo quality.

"But if someone knows that, I wouldn't doubt it," says the wolf expert about the observation of the hunter and dog expert from Aßling.

So it is not a bold conclusion to assume: The wolf is back in the Ebersberg district.

Or at least he stopped by again.

Rumors of sightings in the region keep circulating, hunters are talking behind closed doors of photos that are said to have landed on wildlife cameras.

Only tangible things could not be avoided, since a wolf at Zorneding has been proven to have killed several sheep since a good five years ago.

The Aßlinger sighting by Andreas Schwarz has a different quality.

Wolf sighting: Assling and the region in excitement

Accordingly, the social media channels in and around the southern municipality were running hot on the same day.

A video that has not yet been verified appeared that is supposed to show the wolf near Tuntenhausen, curiously walking next to a car.

There was talk of a sighting a few days earlier in nearby Schönau.

There were suspicions that it could be the wolf that was filmed on April 19 in the Miesbach district.

The hunter also found a paw print around 800 meters from the place where he was watching the wolf.

The print could also come from a large dog.

In contrast to his sighting, the hunter does not want to commit himself.

Now also in the district of Ebersberg: Bavaria as a hub for the wolf

“Bavaria has become a hub,” says the LBV's wolf expert.

The animals come from northern and eastern Germany and the Balkans.

“It can appear anywhere,” says von Lindeiner.

There have been dozens of sightings throughout the Free State this year.

Individual animals, such as the one that probably roamed or is still roaming the district, are "highly mobile".

Hunters, farmers, and pet owners don't like wolves.

"I don't think it's out of the question," says von Lindeiner about the fact that one or the other hunter could miss the wolf with a bullet against all protective rules in order to ensure peace in the area.

But then not Andreas Schwarz, who is far too enthusiastic about the wild visitor for that.

“They are fascinating animals,” he says.

"But the wolf can move on."
