The Census and Statistics Department published the "Hong Kong Energy Statistics 2020 Annual Report" today, describing the supply and demand of energy in Hong Kong.

In terms of electricity, commercial users accounted for 63.9% of total electricity consumption in 2020, still accounting for the largest share of all sectors; residential users accounted for 29.4%, while industrial users accounted for 6.7%.

The local electricity consumption measured by the electricity meter was 158,751 terajoules, a drop of nearly 2% from 2019.

In terms of sales revenue from local electricity sales, although electricity consumption fell, electricity sales revenue was similar to that of 2019, only a slight decrease of 0.06%.

In terms of power sources, the amount of electricity imported from the Mainland has increased by 20.8% from 2010 to 2020, and the year-on-year increase has also reached 2.5%. Last year, the data set a 10-year high.

In terms of electricity production from local power plants, last year it recorded a record low since 2010, a decrease of 4.6% from 2019.
