The police arrested 4 Indian and Nepalese Han suspects in connection with 16 shop thefts and 3 handling of stolen goods, involving an amount of approximately 26,000 yuan.
According to the stolen goods displayed by the police, they were mainly food, including canned luncheon meat, rice, snacks, nuts, toys, etc. The police found that the culprits would attack different shops and steal several items at a time.
It is reported that some people bought the stolen goods at a price lower than half the market price, and then sold the stolen goods to independent individuals at 80% of the market price. The customers were South Asians.
The theft group stored the stolen goods in a unit in Chungking Mansion, Tsim Sha Tsui.

SINGH GIMANDEEP, the case director of the second team of the anti-triad operation team of the Yau Tsim Police District, said that the police received two reports of shop theft in March. After investigation, it was found that the culprits involved were committed by the same person. According to intelligence analysis, the police successfully targeted a theft group active in Yau Tsim District, and they would resell the stolen goods for profit.
Yesterday, when the suspect was settled in a shopping mall in Tsim Sha Tsui, the police immediately launched an operation and arrested two Indian men and two Nepalese men, aged between 29 and 49. They were suspected of having a relationship with Yau Tsim from January to April this year. There were 16 shop thefts and 3 stolen property handling cases in the district. The arrests were called "shop theft" and "handling stolen property".
During the operation, the police searched a unit and seized 450 stolen goods worth about 26,000 yuan.
The arrested person is now being detained for enquiries.
