Schools and municipalities were surprised to hear today (Thursday) that the Ministry of Health has diagnosed five students across the country as blue in the Indian corona variant.

Students said they were unaware of the mutation's existence at all, and parents were outraged that its spread did not stop in time.

Beyond that, officials in the Ministry of Education told Walla!

Because it is possible that the identification of those infected in Ma'ale Adumim was a mistake, and so did the Holon municipality.

The sources said that the issue is under investigation, and that the scope of action of the Ministry of Education is limited because only the Ministry of Health is authorized to determine whether it is indeed a variant.

"The story is complex," they stressed.

"The Ministry of Health should take responsibility for the incident because even those who are vaccinated are probably exposed to the variant - both the parents, the teachers, everyone who was exposed to the same students. Everyone should be tested."

Holon

, the principal of Beit Yosef Elementary School, Rabbi Yosef Elnatanov, said the case was under investigation and it is possible that the Ministry of Health's announcement that he was identified as infected with the institution is by mistake.

The municipality agreed, he said.

"After an examination by the principal of the boys 'and girls' schools, no sick student was found at Beit Yosef in Holon."

"It is possible that this is a mistake by the Ministry of Health in the name of the city, because there are quite a few schools called 'Yosef' around the country and on the Ministry of Health website this is the name that was written," they speculated.

"In Holon it is called 'Beit Yosef' and not Yosef '. It should be emphasized that according to data from the Ministry of Health, currently there are only four patients in Holon, all over the age of 50."

"The fact that we do not know about it personally is very stressful."

In

Ma'ale Adumim

, the municipality announced that test vehicles had been sent to the two schools where patients were located, and by the end of the day, all students would be fully examined. The two students were diagnosed with the virus two weeks ago, but it has only just become clear that it is the Indian strain. Now, the special mutation team wants to conduct a repeat general sampling, despite school opposition.

"If we have the Indian variant in school, then we should at least let the students know that we will be able to cope, because now it is a surprise for me," demanded Hila Blass, a student at ORT Dekel Vilnai School. "The fact that we don't even know about personally is very stressful. I said 'I'm vaccinated, I'm protected.'

Zohar Almkeys, her school friend, felt similar things.

"I did not even know that there is an Indian variant, and certainly not that there is a school. I did not know that there are patients in Ma'ale Adumim at all. Today we were not told anything, we hardly talk about it at school. 10th graders are not vaccinated, but we are less in contact with them. "Masks depend on the teachers, if I'm with the mask on my chin, they don't tell us anything."

She added: "Our life has been stopped for a year, if we go back to the houses now I will lose it."

The chairman of the parents' committee in Ma'ale Adumim, Shlomi Yeruham, said that one of the children had already recovered and returned to school and that students were undergoing tests.

The point is how it blends in with the issue of vaccines, if they are valid, "he said." There are still a lot of question marks and parents want to know how it is treated.

"Once we get all the answers, the pressure level will drop."

Variant at the center of the refusers

In

Pardes Hanna-Karkur, the

discovery of the Indian variant renewed the turbulent discourse surrounding vaccines. "Where is the supervision? Where is the Ministry of Health and where is the police?" Wondered Sharon Ohana, a 44-year-old employee of the Ministry of Welfare who lives in the local council. "The population in the settlement must be updated, must not be silenced. I resent those who do to us, do not want to be tested. Their children are not closed in school, and mix with our children in classes. If it was ultra-Orthodox who do not get vaccinated then they themselves would go against them."

Another resident, 38-year-old Marganit Katabi, who specializes in accounting, also attacked vaccine opponents. "They deny the opinions of doctors, professors and doctors. These are 'doctors of the toilet', sitting on the toilet and sending us theories on Facebook and WhatsApp that they invent. They have made it political because they are against the government and against the prime minister. These 'shants' endanger everyone."

"Outraged at those who actually do."

The Ministry of Health announced this morning that 41 cases of the Indian variant of the corona virus have been identified.

Among those diagnosed are 24 returning from abroad, including 21 foreign nationals, and 17 cases of infection in the community. Some have no connection to returning from other countries. Four of the verified are vaccinated. There is still no clear information regarding the variant, and its implications for vaccinated and recovering

patients

.

In Pardes Hanna, Keshet in Ashdod, Yosef in Holon and Dekel Vilnai and the field plant in Ma'ale Adumim, the Ministry of Health says that it promotes extensive sampling with the Home Front Command in the schools involved. Depending on the responsiveness of the sampling today will be considered to close those schools.
