Already during the election campaign, the Republicans raised the mood against the Democrats with the supposed sleepiness of US President Joe Biden.

Ex-President Donald Trump called his competitor "sleepy Joe" several times - the "sleepy Joe".

But even some of Trump's party colleagues are apparently not immune to attacks of fatigue.

Videos are now circulating on Twitter showing Texas Senator Ted Cruz fighting sleep while Biden delivers his first speech to Congress.

It is difficult for Cruz to keep his eyes open.

According to the US media, at the time of the recording, Biden spoke about an irritating topic for the Republicans: how to deal with refugees on the border with Mexico.

Cruz reacted shortly afterwards on Twitter himself.

He commented on one of the videos that he fell asleep with the hashtag »#BoringButRadical«, »boring but radical«.

After the fatigue attack, Cruz apparently followed the debate more closely.

He also praised his fellow Republican senator from South Carolina, Tim Scott, on Twitter.

In his counter-speech to Biden's address, he had "emphasized the republican values and leadership."

Cruz later criticized Biden's speech on the conservative broadcaster Fox News.

"The speech was calm and melodious," said Cruz.

"It was a challenge to remember a single sentence," said the Republican.

The 54-year-old Cruz had already caused a stir in February because he flew to Mexico with his family for a short vacation despite a devastating snow storm in Texas.

Cruz justified his behavior at the time.
