The Arab Parliamentary Union strongly condemned the practices of the Turkish occupation, especially the crime of deliberate and repeated cutting of drinking water from the people of Hasaka, and called on the international community of all sects and organizations to exert immediate and urgent pressure on the Turkish regime authorities to stop these violations and restore the water supply.

In a statement, SANA received a copy of it today, the Federation stated that these Turkish occupation practices come at a time when the region is witnessing a significant rise in temperatures and in the month of Ramadan in addition to the health situation exacerbated by the spread of the Corona virus and the urgent need for water ... and with all that these practices entail. Images of torture of people and the catastrophic consequences of depriving civilians of drinking water, especially women, children and the elderly. The Union calls on Turkey not to use innocent civilians to settle political and military scores.

The Federation called on the international community in all its spectrums and its human rights organizations to exert immediate and urgent pressure on the Turkish authorities to stop these violations and immediately restore water supplies to the areas that have deprived them of water to prevent a humanitarian catastrophe that will not stop at the Syrian borders, but rather its negative effects will be reflected on the entire surrounding area, reminding what was stipulated in it. The Fourth Geneva Convention and the provisions of international human rights law protect the rights of civilians and basic service facilities, including those related to the distribution of water and sanitation.

The Arab Parliamentary Union expressed its support for the efforts and endeavors aimed at reaching a political solution that would restore to the sisterly Syrian Arab Republic its central security in the Arab region and the world as a basic pillar for joint Arab action and to ensure security and stability in the Arab region and the Middle East.

The day before yesterday, the Speaker of the People’s Assembly, Hammouda Sabbagh, sent 48 letters on behalf of the People’s Assembly to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, heads of federations, international parliamentary organizations, regional and Arab parliamentary assemblies, and the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights denouncing the heinous crime.

And the ongoing perpetration by the Turkish occupation forces and its mercenaries by cutting off drinking water to Hasakah governorate and its vicinity, calling for pressure on the Turkish regime to stop its crime against the safe population.
