In the audit report released by the National Audit Office yesterday (28th), the Immigration Department needs to strengthen the tracking of suspects in false marriage cases and revealed that there are still a backlog of 2,609 false marriage cases, up to 11 years.

The Immigration Department originally replied to the Audit Office that it would expedite the handling of cases. However, the Hampshire published a draft last night, alleging that "some people do not understand criminal investigations and criticize the handling of cases indiscriminately."

The incident immediately aroused public attention.

The Audit Commission issued another article this afternoon (29) to refute the Immigration Department, stating that in order to ensure that the Public Accounts Committee conducts public hearings in a fair manner, the directors, department heads and supervisors should avoid publicly refuting the results of the report.

In order to comply with the relevant regulations, the Audit Commission does not currently comment publicly.

The Immigration Department issued a few public criticisms on the audit report last night. "It deeply regrets that some people who do not understand criminal investigations rashly criticized the law enforcement department's handling of cases, which seriously undermined the professional image of the Immigration Department."

In response to the Immigration Department’s statement today, the Audit Commission stated that according to government regulations, during the period between the submission of the audit report to the Legislative Council and the public hearing, "Regardless of whether it is the relevant bureau chief, department head or head of a public agency, or their subordinates, Avoid publicly rebutting the audit results contained in the report" to ensure that the Public Accounts Committee conducts its hearings fairly and smoothly.

As for the National Audit Office, in accordance with relevant regulations, it does not publicly comment on audit reports.

Yesterday, the National Audit Office issued the latest audit report. Chapter 1 deals with the work of the Immigration Department on the "Administration of Birth, Death and Marriage Registration".

The report pointed out that the Immigration Department needs to strengthen the tracking of suspects in fake marriage cases. There are 2,609 cases backlogged up to this year, half of which have been backlogged for more than two years, up to 11 years.

The Immigration Department has already responded in the report, stating that it will assess manpower, speed up the processing of backlogs, and strengthen inspections, reminding all case officers to send the case files of completed cases as soon as possible after completing all necessary follow-up actions. It will be handed over to the Central Administration Unit to update records and archives, and will issue written guidelines for setting target time limits for file opening for general cases.

However, the Immigration Department issued a new article in the evening, renamed that the suspect who deliberately evaded the investigation has been investigated and tracked in many aspects, but repeated unannounced home visits and investigations have failed. Each fake marriage case has its own uniqueness and rigorous and precise search for evidence. The procedure takes time, and the evidence to be collected for each case is not the same. The investigation cannot only consider one-sided information or make generalizations.
