At the end of 2020 there were three million and 689,000 motor vehicles.

This is an increase of 2.5% in the number of vehicles compared to 2019. This is according to data from the Central Bureau of Statistics.

Of the motor vehicles in Israel, there were about 3,173,300 private vehicles.

This is an increase of 2.9%.

This is a continuation of the downward trend in growth, with an increase of 3.6% in 2019.

Of the private vehicles, these are about 303,600 trucks, about 148,800 motorcycles, about 20,600 taxis, about 22,300 buses, about 14,800 minibuses and about 6,000 special vehicles.

During 2020, about 316,000 vehicles were added to the vehicle status, of which about 250,000 new vehicles.

During this period, about 227,000 vehicles were deducted from the situation, so that the net addition to the number of vehicles amounted to about 89,000 vehicles.

Possible reasons for the deductions are liquidation, total loss, merchant deposit and more.

Of the 250,000 new vehicles added in 2020, about 211,000 were private vehicles (84.2%).

An increase in the number of hybrid vehicles

In 2020, there were about 522,400 diesel-powered vehicles.

This is 14.2% of all vehicles, as in 2019.

The rate of private vehicles consuming diesel continued to grow to 5.7%, from 2.9% in 2011 to 5.4% in 2019.

The number of private vehicles consuming diesel fuel reached 202,200 in 2020.

The number of vehicles powered by gas in 2020 is similar to their number in 2019 - about 21,900, of which about 18,700 are private vehicles.

In 2020, there was a sharp increase of 132.7% in the number of private vehicles powered by electricity and their number was 2,783, compared to 1,196 in 2019.

The number of hybrid vehicles in 2020, including regular hybrid and rechargeable hybrid, stood at 223,666, compared to 176,834 in 2019 with an increase of about 26.5%.

This is a more moderate increase than in previous years, compared with 45% in 2019, 49% in 2018 and 55% in 2017. The total number of hybrid vehicles in Israel was 223,666.

This is an increase of about 26% compared to 2019.

Positive effect for the corona period

As for involvement in road accidents with casualties, it appears that for every 1,000 vehicles there were 5.3 accidents.

This is a decrease from 5.9 in the previous year.

The involvement of trucks weighing more than 34 tons was 7.6 accidents per 1,000 vehicles in 2020, down from 10.9 the previous year.

The involvement of motorcycles was 15.1 per 1,000, a slight decrease from 15.5 in 2019.

Bus involvement was 23.2 per 1,000, down from 28.3 in 2019.

The decrease in vehicle involvement rates in road accidents in 2020 was probably due to the decrease in the average mileage of vehicles. It was found that following the outbreak of the corona plague, the average total mileage of vehicles decreased by 18.3% in the nine months of April-December 2020, compared to the same period in 2019.
