In this year's "Policy Address", the government put forward the "Vibrant Hong Kong Island South" plan, hoping to turn the Southern District into a new landmark integrating tourism, history, culture and life.
A group today (29th) put forward 11 suggestions on the plan, including improving water and land transportation, and believed that the future revitalization of the Southern District should focus on reshaping the life and culture of fishermen.

The Federation of Trade Unions today established a "Building a Living Hong Kong Island" team, with Cheng Pinghong, an associate professor of the Department of Architecture of the University of Hong Kong as a consultant, to make suggestions on optimizing the planning of various districts on Hong Kong Island.
Earlier on site visits, the team suggested that the future revitalization of the Southern District should focus on reshaping the life and culture of fishermen, including listing the seafood painting boat as a historic building, revitalizing it into a sea gallery and catering facilities, and optimizing and strengthening the promotion of the Aberdeen fishing market facilities. Renovate the berthing area of the Aberdeen Typhoon Shelter and improve the water quality to achieve community integration.
Zheng Binghong said that Aberdeen has a traditional water culture. In addition to developing tourism, the younger generation should also be aware of it, hoping to enhance the sense of belonging of Hong Kong people through private wisdom and official cooperation.
Chen Rongen, community officer of the Southern District of the Federation of Trade Unions, also pointed out that the district can develop souvenir pedestrian streets to promote sampan culture.
Promote improvement of water and land transportation network
The convener of "Zhuhuo Hong Kong Island" and a member of the Legislative Council, Guo Weiqiang, is concerned about the traffic problems in the area. He criticized the lack of cooperation between the government and the private sector in the past. He pointed out that the Aberdeen Center is the core area of the Southern District, but there is no MTR station. Speed up the construction of the western section of the South Island Line and increase external bus routes. He also pointed out that the roads leading to Deep Water Bay and Repulse Bay are often congested during the swimming season. He believes that the authorities should develop waterway transportation, such as adding water minibuses to and from Aberdeen. Ap Lei Chau, Wong Chuk Hang, Ocean Park and other places.
In addition, Guo Weiqiang also proposed to develop a bicycle network in the region to connect Aberdeen and Ap Lei Chau.
The team stated that it will continue to collect opinions from the public through various exchanges and activities in the community, so that the "Diving Hong Kong Island South" project will better meet the needs of the community and show the unique cultural features of the district.
