You can't just use it like that - otherwise there is fire under the roof, even without the dragon itself spewing it.

The DLRG local association, for example, once failed with its application to be allowed to put the coat of arms on its emergency vehicle.

Now the market council had to decide in a similar case.

Wartenberg - The municipality's coat of arms can be seen on the homepage of the corona test center of the two Wartenberg pharmacies.

In this case, the committee has now unanimously granted permission for use.

As reported, the test center is located at Thenner Straße 5, the Malteser Hilfsdienst and the DLRG provide the premises they use and which are owned by the store.

Since the pharmacies are the operators of the center, the coat of arms is used by third parties in this case.

And for this, according to the law, approval from the community is required.

The municipal administration explains: "Coats of arms and flags of the municipalities are already protected by federal regulations and trademark law." According to the law, the municipality can contractually grant a third party the right of use - even for a fee, which is not the case with the test center.

The municipality has no concerns: "In view of the support provided by the Wartenberg market for setting up and running the test center, the coat of arms can be used as documentation for this support." After the center was not designed to be permanent due to the pandemic, the approval should be limited in time the period during which the center is in operation.

The councils had no need for discussion before their vote.

At that time, in October 2018, things looked different in the case of the DLRG.

The then mayor Manfred Ranft emphasized that the coat of arms was a national emblem that had to be used sparingly.

After all, the DLRG vehicle is not under the roof of the community like the fire brigade's cars.

"From my point of view there is no reason for it," said Ranft.

“Then you could put the coat of arms on the vehicles of the Johanniter and Red Cross.” That would “mess up the system”.

The Wartenberg coat of arms shows a yellow dragon in a red semicircular shield.

It comes from the dragon relief of the Nikolauskapelle.

Today's design comes from the Munich heraldist Emil Werz (1885–1957).
