The Bundestag has decided on the "Corona emergency brake".

You can find out what this means for your planned vacation or travel in Germany here.

The critical Corona situation and the ineffective Prime Minister's Conference has resulted in the Bundestag adopting an amendment to the Infection Protection Act.

This means that the

nationwide uniform "Corona emergency brake" will come

into force

on Friday (April 23)

.

In fact, it will not take effect until Saturday.

It says that nationwide where the 7-day incidence is over 100 for three days in a row, stricter measures apply.

The emergency brake should apply until the incidence falls below the limit of 100 for five consecutive days.

What do the new rules mean for vacation and travel in Germany?

Do tourist offers and restaurants have to close again?

Some federal states had allowed the first steps to open up in restaurants and leisure facilities.

These must now be withdrawn if the on-site incidence exceeds 100 for three days in a row.

This regulation applies to

restaurants, hotels and leisure and cultural facilities

.

The only exception are the outdoor areas of zoological and botanical gardens. Anyone who has a current negative Corona test can visit them.

The model regions such as those in Schleswig-Holstein, for example, do not seem to be affected by the federal emergency brake *.

Since April 19, the Schlei region with Eckernförde has been testing whether a safe holiday is possible despite the corona pandemic.

Corona emergency brake: is travel within Germany completely prohibited?

There is no direct travel ban, but

the Federal Government continues

to

advise against travel within Germany that is not absolutely necessary, but also abroad

.

A holiday in Germany is also difficult, as accommodation establishments have to remain closed for tourist purposes.

In the view of the Federal Government, visits to relatives should also be avoided as far as possible.

If you still go on a day trip, you must note that

there is a curfew from 10 p.m.

- so

day trippers

should be home by then. Because staying in means of transport between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. is

expressly prohibited in the districts concerned

, according to a brief report by Bundestag lawyers, which

Bild.de has

available. Since almost all trips by car, bus or train can cross an area with an incidence of more than 100, trips home after 10 p.m. would no longer be allowed. However, there is still a need for discussion: "Those who do not want to commit an administrative offense are not allowed to cross the affected districts in the car, by train or even by plane during the curfew", criticizes Bundestag Vice President Wolfgang Kubicki loudly

the “hopeless chaos”.

The railway would also face major problems “in maintaining rail traffic”.

Night flights are no longer allowed to take off with holidaymakers in regions with an incidence over 100.

"The federal government must now clarify as quickly as possible how its regulation is to be implemented," demands Kubicki.

vacation in Germany

This year, many Germans want to spend their vacation within the country as soon as it is possible again.

Traveling abroad: what is allowed?

The federal government also continues to advise against traveling abroad.

In principle, however, they are not prohibited.

However, it should also be noted here that a night curfew applies in regions with an incidence above 100.

The journey home from the airport to your place of residence could therefore be difficult if you have to drive through such an area after 10 p.m.

In addition, all air travelers must present a negative corona test before departure in order to be allowed to fly.

However, there may soon be easing for vaccinated people, as reported by 24hamburg.de *, among other things.
