99 schools and 650 people have contracted respiratory infections and flu-like diseases in the past half month

According to the Centre for Health Protection of the Department of Health, a total of 99 schools have reported outbreaks of upper respiratory tract infections and influenza-like illnesses in recent days (April 18 to May 3), including 72 kindergartens/child care centres and 27 primary schools, involving more than 650 people.

Among them, 42 schools, including 30 kindergartens/child care centres and 12 primary schools, are the new cases recorded on Monday.

The spokesperson said that the center has taken the most rigorous preventive measures. Once a school reports an outbreak of upper respiratory tract infection and/or influenza-like illness in the school, the school will immediately suspend classes for 5 days and issue the 2019 coronavirus to all school staff and students. Compulsory disease detection order, early detection of potential patients, thereby reducing the risk of transmission in schools and communities.

As the number of cases continues to increase, the center strongly urges members of the public to be vigilant to prevent infection. It has recently sent letters to schools and doctors urging them to be vigilant and take corresponding measures. If children have fever, they should not return to school regardless of whether they have respiratory symptoms or not. Wear a mask immediately and seek medical advice as soon as possible.

Schools should take the body temperature of all students when they arrive at school every day to identify children with fever.

The center also urges doctors to stay vigilant and arrange for the collection of samples for respiratory infection tests for all patients with symptoms of acute respiratory infections.
