The Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the Chargé d'Affairs to the Turkish regime’s embassy in Baghdad and handed him a protest note against the ongoing violations of his country's forces of Iraqi lands, the most recent of which was the presence of the Turkish Minister of Defense Hulusi Akar in Iraqi lands without prior coordination with the Iraqi government.

The ministry said in a statement today that “The Senior Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nizar Al-Khair Allah, summoned the Chargé d'Affairs to the Turkish Embassy in Baghdad and handed him a protest memorandum in which the Iraqi government expressed its strong dissatisfaction and condemnation of the presence of acres inside Iraqi lands without coordination or prior approval by the competent authorities and his meeting with Turkish forces present "Inside the territories illegally, as well as condemning the statements of the Turkish Interior Minister regarding Turkey's intention to establish a permanent military base in northern Iraq."

According to the statement, the agent emphasized that the Iraqi government “categorically rejects the continuing violations of Iraqi sovereignty and the sanctity of Iraqi lands and airspace by the Turkish military forces,” indicating that continuing with such an approach is inconsistent with friendly relations, good neighborliness, and relevant international laws and norms.

Al-Wakeel stressed the need to remind neighboring Turkey that relying on unilateral military solutions cannot be the effective way to settle common security challenges.

It is noteworthy that the Turkish regime forces have repeatedly violated the sanctity of Iraqi lands and were stationed at the end of 2015 in the Bashiqa area near the city of Mosul in northern Iraq, which was confirmed by the Iraqi government that it constitutes aggression and a violation of Iraqi sovereignty and in violation of the rules of international law and demanded the withdrawal of Turkish forces.
