Residents of Judea and Samaria fear that the attack that took place yesterday at the Tapuach junction is the beginning of a new wave of terrorism, and claim that the IDF has lost its deterrence.

"If a terrorist manages to reach a secure hitchhiking site, shoot three young men and flee the scene without stopping him, then we have lost the deterrent," a local resident told us yesterday.

The IDF does not believe at this stage that yesterday's attack, which joins two more attacks that have taken place in Judea and Samaria in recent days, indicates a resurgence of a wave of terrorism.

Yossi Dagan, head of the Samaria Regional Council, in whose territory the deadly attack took place, said that "the State of Israel must take retaliatory action against the head of the snake."

Amid fears of escalation, a senior Ramallah official told Israel Today that the Palestinian Authority's security services sent messages to their counterparts in Israel that the PA would not allow terrorist activities to be organized in the West Bank.

A senior Palestinian security official added that the PA's intelligence service estimates that Hamas will not act to launch rockets from the Gaza Strip.
