Authorities say a good Samaritan jumped into the water and rescued a baby.

At least eight people were taken to hospitals this Sunday after an accident that left a vehicle hanging from the railing of a bridge in Ocean City, Maryland, according to authorities.
Firefighters and police rushed to the bridge shortly after 2:45 p.m., the Ocean City Fire Department reported in a news release.
Authorities attending the incident found a vehicle overturned on the railing and several people injured, firefighters said.
"During the collision, a pediatric patient was thrown from the car that was wobbling on the railing and fell into Assawoman's bay," he added.
At that moment, a Good Samaritan intervened and made a valiant rescue, jumping "immediately" over the railing and falling into the bay, saving the child.

Rob Korb, a life member of the Ocean City Fire Department and Worcester County Deputy Fire Chief, told CNN he "came across" the incident while out on errands.

Firefighters secured the vehicle with rescue tools and paramedics treated several patients, the Fire Department said in the statement.

Seven people were airlifted to local hospitals while the baby was airlifted to Johns Hopkins Children's Hospital, firefighters said.
CNN contacted the hospital, but was unable to determine the baby's condition.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident, according to the fire department.
