The toddler, who was playing with his older sister, fell on brush and then on earthy ground, which cushioned his fall.

A neighbor alerted the gendarmes before the firefighters went very quickly to the scene.

When they arrived, the child was crying and was conscious.

The little boy was first transported to the Montbrison hospital center before being immediately evacuated by helicopter to the pediatric emergencies of the CHU North of Saint-Etienne.

He suffers from facial trauma, a broken humerus and various bruises according to firefighters, who consider his condition very serious.

The mother, a 32-year-old woman in shock, was taken in by firefighters.

The Loire gendarmerie has opened an investigation to establish the precise sequence of events.
