Palestinian Authority Chairman Abu Mazen officially announced during the night (Thursday-Friday) that the elections that were expected to take place in the Palestinian parliament will be postponed until the participation of Jerusalem residents can be guaranteed.

More recently, Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas delivered a speech amid the possibility that the Palestinian elections would be postponed before they were actually postponed. In the first part of his speech, which was broadcast on Palestinian television, Abu Mazen did not announce a postponement of the election, but it is estimated that an order on the subject will be published in the coming hours.

"EU representatives confirmed to us that the Israeli side does not allow the elections in East Jerusalem. The Europeans said there was no use and the Israelis would never allow elections," Abu Mazen said in his speech. "Our real answer to Israel for its refusal is that no one laughs at us. Working on us. "

"We sent the Palestinian Foreign Minister to Europe and said that we were waiting for a response from the Israelis regarding the holding of elections in East Jerusalem. We issued presidential orders for the elections, and we waited for a response on their existence in Jerusalem and received no response," he added.

The PA chairman also accused Israel of attacking activists in the east of the capital and not allowing them to carry out activities as part of the campaign.

Abbas also referred to the events in Jerusalem and said: "These events seen by the whole world, showed that our mighty people can the forces of occupation and the intentions of the occupation. The world saw the violence of the Israeli government and settlers. Those who called death to the Arabs. Israel".

A journalist close to Hamas responded by saying that "Abbas' speech is misleading. A poor attempt to escape elections because they do not guarantee him victory."

Earlier, Fatah sources told al-Arabi al-Jadid newspaper about Abu Mazen's speech that the apparent direction was to postpone the election indefinitely and an invitation to form a national unity government. During the day, Palestinian media reported that Abbas met with the prime minister Former PA official, Salam Fayyad, regarding the formation of such a government.
