The General Directorate of Ports has warned all fishermen of the danger of using illegal fishing means on fish stocks, stressing that the most severe penalties will be taken against everyone who is caught or detected who uses this type of fishing along the coastal strip.

The Director General of Ports, Brigadier General Eng. Ammar Makhlouf, stated in a statement to SANA that the directorate’s warning came within the framework of its plan to combat overfishing with dynamite and the negative impact of these acts that are strictly prohibited, pointing out that the directorate will take the necessary penalties against those who use these methods in order to preserve the fish wealth and its economic importance and value Food on the one hand and to ensure the safety of citizens on the other hand.

Makhlouf indicated that fishing by detonating dynamite leads to killing small fish in addition to killing all living organisms in the sea or river, not to mention contamination of water with explosives.

Makhlouf explained that the Directorate has taken a set of measures to combat this phenomenon along the Syrian coast, whereby all fishing boats will be inspected in the ports and marinas before they go out for fishing, in addition to matching the fishing method used with the licenses granted, with an emphasis on the role of the port and police agents and their responsibility to monitor any prohibited fishing activities The length of the beach.

Makhlouf indicated that the patrol boats in the sea had planned and surprise patrols, searching the boats while they were on the fishing ground, in cooperation with the marine forces' outposts along the shore to control the movement of boats.

According to Makhlouf, a permanent component will be allocated from the ports with a representative from fisheries, health and supplies to monitor female fishers in fish sales yards and ensure their safety, indicating that if they are proven to be caught with dynamite, appropriate control will be organized.
