Lattakia - Sana

The Syrian Foundation for Trade branch in Latakia today rented more than 22 tons of tomatoes from farmers in the countryside of Jableh, directly to sell them in the corporation’s halls in Latakia and the rest of the governorates.

The Director General of the Foundation, Ahmed Najm, confirmed to the SANA reporter during his supervision of importing the material in the countryside of Jableh that the institution is working to provide all possible facilities and support to farmers, indicating that the institution’s procedure saves a set of costs, including transportation, the price of packages and commission, which represents an additional value for the product and reduces costs for farmers.

He pointed out that the Foundation continues to obtain material from farmers and display it in its galleries or in the markets of other governorates, as part of its keenness to support farmers.

For his part, the director of the branch, Shady Dallala, indicated that the branch is moving today a number of trucks with plastic containers directly to the farms, so that the amount of materials purchased and paid for directly exceeds 22 tons.

Farmers face difficulties, the most important of which are the high costs and production requirements, including nylon strips, strings and packages, the high proportion of merchandise in the market and fertilizers, which are not commensurate with the current market prices, especially as the material matures as a result of high temperatures and an increase in supply.

Plastic tomatoes are cultivated in Lattakia mainly in the Jableh Plain, in the villages of Bassein, Okaiba, and Ruwaysat Al Hajjal, and the average price per kilogram in the wholesale market ranges between 250 and 400 Syrian pounds, depending on the variety.
