The man, born in Épinal in 1989 and living in the city, was transported to hospital, his vital prognosis being engaged, said Nicolas Heitz, public prosecutor of Épinal.

According to the first elements of the investigation, he presented himself at the police station shortly before 8 a.m. claiming to have witnessed a murder, explained the magistrate. Once in the entrance hall, the man, without saying a word, took his knife and gave himself "

fairly quickly

" two stab wounds in the stomach, according to the internal video of the police station, specified Nicolas Heitz. The police officers present at the entrance reacted very quickly. They intervened to disarm the man and allow his support by the emergency services, he added.

The prosecutor said he had opened an investigation in particular for "

possession of a category D weapon

", in this case the knife. The investigations were entrusted to the Epinal police station, he added. The investigation relates in particular to the personality of this man "

known for petty crimes
