The death toll from the collapse of a section of a suspended metro bridge the moment a train passed it in the Mexican capital, Mexico City, rose to 23, while 70 others were injured.
"We regret at this stage the death of 23 people, including one who died in hospital," Claudia Shinbaum, Mayor of Mexico City, was quoted by Agence France-Presse as telling reporters.
She added that the accident occurred last night near the Elifos station on the 12th line of the metro south of the capital.
Scenes broadcast by local channels showed dozens of firefighters and paramedics working hard during the night to rescue the train's passengers from among the rubble, wires and twisted metal pieces.
A previous toll had indicated that 13 people were killed and 70 others were injured in the accident.
