The Centre for Health Protection announced that there were 4 new confirmed cases today, of which 3 were imported cases, and the remaining 1 was not classified and may be a local case.

One of the imported cases was a 28-year-old Indian housewife who came to Hong Kong (case number: 11789). After completing the quarantine, she returned to the community to find a positive case.

Zhang Zhujun, director of the Department of Infectious Diseases of the Centre for Health Protection, pointed out that the Indian woman was pregnant, and her body was tested for antibodies to the virus, and she was infected with the N501Y variant virus, which is believed to be an imported case.

Zhang pointed out that although some people were diagnosed in the hotel where the woman was staying during the quarantine period, they were not of the same type of virus. He believed that the chance of infection in the hotel was relatively small.

According to the information released by the Department of Health yesterday, the 28-year-old housewife who flew to Hong Kong from Delhi, India, tested negative during the hotel quarantine on the 21st, and then returned to live at the Meiyuan Building, Kimberley Road, Tsim Sha Tsui.

Zhang Zhujun pointed out that the woman stayed at home because she was pregnant. She went to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital to see a doctor on April 26. She was admitted to the Queen’s Hospital and tested negative for the virus. She had to undergo mandatory testing on April 30 because she returned to Hong Kong on the 26th. At that time, the result was uncertain. The test by the Center for Health Protection was a positive case with the N501Y variant virus strain, but it was negative for the E484K variant.

Zhang Zhujun said that antibodies have been detected in the patient, and it is estimated that it will take about 10 days for the antibodies to appear. It is believed that the woman was infected with the virus when she was in India, so it was classified as an imported case.

Regarding the chance of a patient being infected during the hotel quarantine, Zhang Zhujun pointed out that there were no other cases on the same floor of the Regal Oriental Hotel where he was quarantined. Although there were cases on the other floor, it was not the N501Y variant. The other case was the N501Y and E484K variants. Therefore, it is believed that the chance of related cases in the hotel is relatively small.

The fifth case of a variant virus patient, a 28-year-old Indian woman who arrived in Hong Kong

After the Indian housewife tested positive for the virus, the Department of Health last night (3rd) arranged for the residents of about 40 units on all floors of the Meiyuan Building on Kimberley Road in Tsim Sha Tsui to be sent to the quarantine center for 21-day compulsory quarantine.

Zhang Zhujun pointed out that 77 people from his family and the whole building have been sent to the quarantine center, but 6 units still need to follow up and are looking for residents of the number of households.
