The Danish government only stopped vaccinations with the AstraZeneca vaccine in April, now Johnson & Johnson is out too.

For a reason ...

The corona vaccination program is experiencing ups and downs all over the world.

Since the vaccines are all very new, questions about their effectiveness, tolerability or serious side effects come up regularly.

In the past, the vaccine from the British-Swedish manufacturer AstraZeneca was often in the line of fire, but as reported by echo24.de *, the US preparation from Johnson & Johnson is now making headlines *.

The vector vaccine from the USA was recently removed from Denmark's vaccination program - due to reports of rare blood clots in connection with the J&J Corona vaccination.

The Danish health authority recently announced that it had "concluded that the benefits of using the Johnson & Johnson Covid-19 vaccine do not outweigh the risk of causing the negative effects."

Coronavirus in Denmark: This is why the Johnson & Johnson vaccine has been stopped

This makes Denmark one of the first countries in the world to remove the US vaccine from its vaccination campaign.

For precisely this reason, the Danish government was the first European country to stop vaccinations with the British-Swedish vaccine from AstraZeneca * in April.

Because the EU drug authority EMA is sticking to the corona vaccine from Johnson & Johnson - despite the reports of blood clots.

The EMA sees "a possible link" between the vaccine and the rare occurrence of blood clots, but the benefits of the vaccine outweigh the risks, the Medicines Agency said in April.

US authorities also agree with this assessment.

According to the Tagesschau, the USA had temporarily suspended the corona vaccine from Johnson & Johnson, but then gave the green light again for vaccinations with the vaccine.

Johnson & Johnson vaccination freeze: is the Danish corona vaccination campaign in danger?

For Denmark, the suspension of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine means that the vaccination campaign is getting a damper.

Vaccination appointments have to be postponed by up to four weeks, the deputy director general of the Danish health authority, Helene Probst, reported to ARD.

But she is still confident.

The corona situation in Denmark is currently "under control" and the vaccination campaign with the other available vaccines is also running satisfactorily.

What happens to the Johnson & Johnson vaccine doses that have already been delivered is still unclear at the moment.

Johnson & Johnson in Denmark: Is the vaccination ban actually sealed?

A solution seems possible, as it is already practiced here in Germany with the vaccine "Vaxzevria *" from AstraZeneca.

A discussion has started in Denmark on whether Johnson & Johnson and AstraZeneca vaccines should now be vaccinated on a voluntary basis.

Both preparations are so-called vector vaccines.

As echo24.de * already reported, according to scientists, the "vector *" could cause the dreaded blood clots.

But Denmark has already ordered 8.2 million doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine and the first deliveries arrived there in mid-April, but the preparation has not yet been approved to contain the corona pandemic.

It also sounds like the last word hasn't been spoken yet.

, the Danish health authority said the decision to suspend vaccination with the US vaccine from Johnson & Johnson could be reconsidered.

"New knowledge can arise or the situation in Denmark can change", for example if the Danish corona situation worsens again and vaccinations become more urgent, or if other vaccines become less available.

The German Ministry of Health, which wants to offer every adult in Germany a vaccination offer by the end of the summer, has not yet commented on a Johnson & Johnson vaccination ban.
