It is the third most common cause of death from cardiovascular diseases in Germany and one of the most common reasons for hospitalization: heart failure (heart failure).

In order to be able to guarantee optimal treatment for those affected, the Dr.

Robert Schindlbeck has now set up a "Heart Failure Unit" (HFU - heart failure unit) in Herrsching.

Herrsching

- Heart failure is not uncommon in patients who have survived severe heart disease or in the elderly. "In addition to the increasing number of people affected, there is also an increasing complexity of diagnostics and drug and apparatus therapy, which constantly presents us with new challenges in patient care," emphasizes Chief Physician Dr. Achim Rotter together with chief physician Dr. Peter Sautner, the head of cardiology. Heart failure patients, for example, need implantable defibrillators, which are now used wirelessly in Herrsching.

"The electrode is placed under the skin and not in the heart," said Rotter. “This has the advantage that it can simply be pulled out in the event of a defect.” The premises of the new “Heart Failure Unit” previously served as a recording room. After it was rebuilt elsewhere, the ideal location for the four beds with the most modern monitoring systems for the treatment of heart failure patients was found. "We built the room mainly on our own with our own construction team, medical technicians and electricians," says clinic boss Robert Schindlbeck proud of the performance of his employees.

And District Administrator Stefan Frey was also very impressed at his first opening ceremony during his tenure: “Great, really nice!” Together with the Starnberg Clinic, there are now two efficient cardiologies that complement each other very well with their respective range of services. So is Professor Dr. Florian Krötz, chief physician of the medical clinic at the Starnberg Clinic, specializes in the mitral clip procedure (mitral valve surgery), among other things.

The next goal is the certification of the "Heart Failure Unit" by the German Society for Cardiology, which is to be carried out in the course of this year. "With the exception of Harlaching, only Herrsching can offer this south of Würzburg," said Rotter. The head physician and his colleague Sautner have been certified for the treatment of heart failure patients since last year, as has the cardiological practice at the Herrsching Clinic as a so-called "Heart Failure Outpatient".
