Paris: 565 new social housing in the heart of the 5th arrondissement for students

A signature, a future site and 565 housing units for students, researchers and administrative staff in the heart of the 5th arrondissement.

At the end of last week, Christine Laconde, the new boss of the RIVP (Régie immobilière de Paris), the 2nd largest social landlord in the City of Paris, and Jean Chambaz, president of Sorbonne University, signed a protocol for the creation of '' a university residence on the Pierre et Marie Curie campus of Sorbonne University.

The RIVP was chosen as the contracting authority.

The management, the allocation of housing and the maintenance of the building have been entrusted to the Crous de Paris.

The building in question already exists.

It is currently a huge bar, empty and disused, with a living area of ​​approximately 15,000 m².

The "carcass" is located rue Cuvier, opposite the Jardin des Plantes and will integrate with the campus, formerly Jussieu, which is spread out between the quai Saint-Bernard (Ve), the streets of Fossés Saint-Bernard, Cuvier, Liné and Place Jussieu.

Old classrooms

Originally, the building, built in 1961, signed by the architect Cassan, now dilapidated and thermal strainer, housed offices, laboratories, rooms for teaching and research, administrative services.

The 565 future new housing units, with ecological and social standards, will be allocated to students, teacher-researchers and University staff on social criteria.

In detail, there are plans for 400 T1 for students and doctoral students of the PLUS type, that is to say with HLM rent capped at 7 € / m² and 165 apartments with one to three rooms for postdoctoral fellows, researchers and teachers. with a rent capped at 13 € / m².

Spaces dedicated to student life are also planned, including a music studio and a multipurpose room.

Delivery in… 2026

Future candidates, students in need of housing, will however have to be patient… The work has not yet started! The project is currently in the project manager selection phase, after the choice of the five teams admitted to submit a tender, made up of architects associated with technical design offices. The work is expected to last three years. Delivery is not scheduled before 2026!
