Liang Zijun, a 14-year-old boy with moderate intellectual disability and autism, fell off a building five years ago in a privately-run home for the disabled, "Cambridge House". He died in an accident today (4th).

During the hearing of Zijun’s cause of death, many family members who needed to take care of disabled relatives came to the court to listen in. Some family members who had lived in the same institution said that apart from being dirty and infested with rats, there was a serious shortage of manpower and even mental illness. Female inmates of Japan also have to help with meals. The inmates are even beaten up without proper care. They are like hell on earth, but they continue to admit new admissions. Some family members lamented, "Is it possible that there will be no tragedies?" The family members all pointed out that it is difficult to expect private institutions to make proper arrangements, and hope that through this case, the government will be urged to build more public institutions.

Dirty residential environment

My aunt, who was in his seventies, brought Yanzai, who is now 21 years old, to court during the hearing. She said that Yanzai was still like a 3-month-old because of a rare genetic disease, obese Wiley’s disease. A young child did not know how to walk. It was only when he was more than 2 years old that he was found to be stunted, and he was confirmed to be suffering from chubby Willy’s disease, which is caused by eating all day long. He also has mild mental retardation and diabetes. Take up to 9 kinds of drugs.

My aunt said that she applied for Yanzi to live in the "Muen's House", the predecessor of Kangqiao Institute, in 2012. It was located on the 2nd and 3rd floors of Wancheng Building in Kwai Chung together with Kangqiao later.

My aunt said that the environment of the male floor on the third floor of the hospital was dirty and worried, but the hospital lobbied her to let Yanzi, who was 12 years old at the time, live in a cleaner female floor temporarily.

Aunt Yanzi said that Yanzi used to live in Mu En's House, the predecessor of the institution involved. She said that the environment of the institution was dirty and severely lacking manpower. She described it as a hell on earth and terrifying.

Female psychiatric hospitalists help to fold the clothes

My aunt said that she often visited Yanzi at Mu En at that time and noticed that the hospital was seriously understaffed. The mentally ill female residents would prepare meals and fold shirts on behalf of the staff. There was no number of people during the meal. The residents "eat as long as you eat. ", was urged to pour water, "Quickly eat."

There was a second hospital who didn't notify her that Yanzi had diarrhea, only to know that there was only one person on duty after dinner, no one was patrolling, and it didn't care whether he took a bath or did homework.

She pointed out that the staffing and drug delivery arrangements were chaotic.

The yard smells like hell on earth

She also said that there were residents fighting on the third floor, and the staff would ignore them. She also heard that residents were beaten by staff.

There was also a smell of feces in the courtyard. Yanzi also complained to many rats and refused to move to the terrifying third floor. As a result, Yanzi left Mu En after living in less than a month and was taken care of by his aunt.

Waiting for public institutions may take 20 years

The aunt said that she started to wait for the public institution for Yanzi five years ago, or she would have to wait for 20 years.

She is worried about people with disabilities who don't know how to express, and others don't even know whether they have enough food and clothing.

She said: "The land is so bleak, and I must love the land even more." She said that the government can cope with the expenditure but refuses to increase support. The private homes are not well taken care of but can be profitable. The government has turned a blind eye to these situations.

The boy Liang Zijun fell to his death at Cambridge House on August 23, 2016. The hospital was nailed by the Social Welfare Department in October of the same year.

The staff has a superficial understanding of autistic patients

Another Ms. Lin (pseudonym) also claimed that she has a 30-year-old son with autism who is planning to live in a dormitory for him in the future. She was surprised when she went to the court to listen. She did not expect the number of staff in private homes to be so small It's terrible. When public institutions stopped accepting residents due to the maximum number of residents, private institutions did not refuse to come.

Lin also claimed that when he heard the testimony from the director of the case, Liu Jiexin, she claimed to have worked as a volunteer and knew how to take care of residents, but Ms. Lin thought that their attitude was contemptuous and irresponsible, and said: "Every patient with autism has different characteristics. "She added: "When she speaks, she can tell that he (Liu) is ignorant of autism. Zhong has to play an important role in the (institution). Is there any way for tragedy to happen?" Auntie and Lin Jun allege that Liu said, "Ask your heart." "Why not be ashamed" has been unsatisfactory, and admitted that Liu should at least express apologies to the mother of the deceased.

Ms. Lin, who also has a son with autism, also appeared in court to hear her. She hopes that the government can build more public-run homes for the disabled.

Urge the government to build more institutions

Regarding Liu's confession, he emphasized that Zijun was the most "absolutely bored" in the whole hospital. Ms. Lin said that it is not only Zijun who suffers from autism in the hospital, and their behavior problems are not easy to cope with.

Lin's son had shouted for a full year because the street light he saw at home was damaged and went out. She guessed the cause for a long time, and said: "If one child is like a child, no matter how many others, he can't handle it, but he keeps tightening. Hey, I sigh." They urged the government to build institutions, saying that it is difficult to expect the private sector to do well.

My aunt hoped that Yanzi could live independently, without the need for someone to "hold the tail". She shed tears and told her that she did not dare to think too long, otherwise she was "surprised" and said, "Teaching and teaching (him)." Recently, Ms. Lin asked her son to live in a dormitory many times, even though she didn't know whether he understood it or not, she always wanted to prepare her son psychologically, but he had no choice but to enter the dormitory later than others.

Liang Zijun, a boy who fell to his death in the yard, was like other children when he was a kid.
