The Defender of Rights is sounding the alarm bell on
"respect for the fundamental rights of elderly people in nursing homes",
in a report released on Tuesday.
Deprivation of liberty of residents, institutional mistreatment, lack of resources and nursing staff: the dysfunctions in the support of seniors in retirement homes are not new.

But, since the start of the pandemic, the independent authority headed by Claire Hédon has said it is
"particularly challenged"
on violations of the rights and freedoms of residents, starting with
"their right to maintain family links", "their freedom to 'come and go'
and
'respect for their consent'

Over the past six years, the Defender of Rights indicates that he has investigated more than 900 complaints from people contesting the terms of their support or that of a loved one in these structures.
