The Civil Guard intervenes five tons of hashish and detains Mohamed L. Mohamed, one of the main logistics operators of drug trafficking between Morocco and Spain, in Estepona

One of the people arrested in the Busycon operation against drug trafficking, Civil Guard

No frills, discreet, he never made a noise to his neighbors. His figure has gone unnoticed for years on the Costa del Sol. Not even his name attracted attention: Mohamed L. Mohamed, as common in Morocco as a Juan García in Spain. "It was not at all ostentatious and it was always in the shade," say police sources. He broke the stereotype of his colleagues, but it was his way of doing business and he had become one of the main logistics operators for drug trafficking on the coasts of Malaga and Cádiz. Out of the spotlight, the alleged criminal had dealings, among others, with the Tejón brothers, alias 'Castaña', powerful drug traffickers from La Línea de la Concepción. Until, on April 25, the Civil Guard detained him outside his home in Estepona. In the operation, called

Busycon

, seven other people have also fallen, including a member of the Neapolitan camorra, with initials PV

Mohamed's job was to maintain a "low profile" and "try to go unnoticed," according to judicial sources who know him from previous operations, such as the one that in 2014 served to seize about thirty narcolanchas from his organization. With reserve and caution, the 45-year-old narco built his reputation, leading one of the “most important and active criminal organizations” dedicated to the introduction of large amounts of drugs into Spain, according to the Civil Guard. Among his clients were the Chestnuts, known as the "kings of hashish" and who the researchers estimate a fortune of 30 million euros. "It was the shadow supplier, but it was a piece," say sources from the Central Operational Unit (UCO) of the armed institute in Malaga, who have developed the research, coordinated by the Almería Anti-Drug Delegate Prosecutor and the Sixth Investigating Court of the Almeria province.

On Sunday morning, Mohamed was at home while, just over 130 kilometers by road, in Conil de la Frontera (Cádiz), there was an exchange of 5,000 kilos of hashish.

It was an operation the agents had been working on since the middle of last year.

The clue indicated that there was an organization that, with an important infrastructure, managed to transport large quantities of hashish in an agile and fast way from Morocco to Spain.

And also that, from there, the drug was later sent to different European countries.

The group consisted of Spanish, Moroccan and Italian people, which once again shows the international ties of the drug trafficking activity that takes place in the Campo de Gibraltar and the Costa del Sol.

Bales of hashish seized during the police action Civil Guard

The band recently acquired almost five tons of hashish, which reached the Andalusian coast by sea. Without incident, the cache was taken to warehouses - called

nurseries

- where it was to be delivered "imminently", according to the Civil Guard, to another department of the organization, specialized in international distribution. The agents acted just in that exchange with the support of the Rapid Action Group (GAR) and the Special Intervention Unit (UEI) "due to the complexity and danger" of the action. At that time, several arrests were made and drugs were intervened.

In parallel, the intervention was activated in the provinces of Almería and Málaga, especially in Marbella and Estepona. In this town, several people were detained, among them Mohamed L. Mohamed, an old acquaintance of the security forces after in 2014 an operation of the GRECO [Special Response Group for Organized Crime] of the Police managed to seize 29 drug boats of up to 750 horses departing from clandestine piers located on the Campo-Gibraltar river of Guadarranque.

Immediately afterwards, the agents also detained PV, a member of the Neapolitan camorra and wanted in his country, on the public thoroughfare of Estepona. He has several pending cases with the justice for drug trafficking and "mafia-type association," according to the Civil Guard. During the searches, more than 200,000 euros in cash, jewelry, vehicles and a large amount of computer and technological material were intervened. Of the eight people arrested, six are already in prison. The Civil Guard keeps the operation open and does not rule out new arrests.
