The Jockey Club Senior Citizens Park, together with the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and St. James' Settlement, today (4th) announced the launch of the "Jockey Club Friends Trail Community Project" to provide substantial assistance to relatives and friends with dementia by combining community networks and technological capabilities , Including the development of a "Youli Track" mobile phone application, combined with the "Guardian Track" electronic device, so that when the patient is lost, the downloaded person can be notified through the program, and the mobile phone can be used to receive signals to trace the whereabouts of the lost person.

Chen Shuangxing, a professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Science and Technology who developed the system, said that the principle is to first allow patients with dementia or cognitive impairment to wear "guard trail" electronic devices in the shape of buttons, crutches or mobile phone cards. If the patient goes missing When the family members ask the service agency for help, the agency will send the message to those who have downloaded the "Youli Track" mobile app, requesting the other party to turn on the Bluetooth and GPS location, and the "Guardian Track" electronic device will send out once every second The Bluetooth signal, as long as anyone receives the signal, it will be automatically transmitted to the cloud server, so as to inform the family members of the patient’s geographic trajectory, so that it can be retrieved as soon as possible, regardless of the program downloader receiving the signal, or missing Patients are handled anonymously, and the cloud server will not record the true identity of the other party to protect the privacy of both parties.
Professor Chen said that the program has received more than 4,200 downloads at present and is studying its promotion to the smart city model, including the trial installation of "angel boxes" that track the "Guardian Tracks" signals in some stores in Hong Kong. It will also cooperate with the government or the public in the future. The organization explores the feasibility of installing boxes on lamp posts or other public devices.
The plan is to conduct online questionnaire surveys at the same time. Within one month from the end of January this year, 576 carers of people with dementia were interviewed via online questionnaires. Seventy-four of them said their relatives and friends were over 80 years old. About 18% of people aged 70 to 79 years old, 30% of the interviewees said that the patient had been lost, and 84% of the family members of the interviewed expressed concern that the patient would be lost again, and 40% would prohibit them from going out alone after the patient was lost. 33% and 28% will add mobile phones and electronic tracking devices to patients.

The survey also found that about 50% of the family members interviewed claimed that the patient was found in the residential building or nearby streets, but also 10% of them were found after travelling by car or walking far away. While waiting outside, he heard louder and louder voices, only to realize that his wife had been scolded for several minutes, and he had to flush into the toilet and hurriedly drag her away to calm the incident.
