An earthquake measuring 5.8 degrees on the Richter scale hit western Indonesia today, without any reports of injuries or damage.
The Indonesian Agency of Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics stated that the quake, which occurred at a depth of 29 kilometers, was detected in the Mentawai Islands region off Sumatra province in the west of the country.
No tsunami warnings were issued as a result of the quake.
It is noteworthy that Indonesia is prone to earthquakes, as it is located in an active area called the Ring of Fire, where earthquakes and volcanoes abound.
