French journalist kidnapped in Mali by terrorist group affiliated with al-Qaida in the Islamic Maghreb

In a short video, the correspondent of the weekly Le Point, Olivier Dubois, confirms that he was kidnapped by the armed group on April 8.


In a 21-second video, the Support Group for Islam and Muslims, GSIM, claims the kidnapping of a French journalist in Mali.

Main jihadist group in Mali, affiliated with al-Qaida in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM), it operates mainly in the north of the country.

In the video, Olivier Dubois, correspondent for the weekly Le Point in Mali since 2015, confirms his kidnapping on April 8, 2021. “

”he says in the video.

The information was confirmed by the AFP correspondent on the spot.

Olivier Dubois is to date the only known hostage in France, since the release in September 2020 of Sophie Pétronin, also kidnapped by a group affiliated with AQIM in 2016.
