The mandate of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to form a government expired Wednesday (May 5th), indicated the Israeli presidency, which will now have to mandate a new elected official in order to try to get the country out of the political crisis.

"Shortly before midnight, Mr. Netanyahu informed the presidency that he was unable to form a government,"
President Reuven Rivlin's office said in a brief statement, which had instructed the outgoing prime minister to attempt to form a government, after the elections of March 23.
