The hospital park in Holzkirchen suffers from a dwindling quality of stay - especially when it gets dark.

The market town wants to change that now.

Holzkirchen

- The quality of stay has decreased, says Holzkirchen's market builder Florens Hintler. Local councilor Simon Ammer (SPD) sees a "gem" that is in the treasure chest. And landscape architect Katrin Schulze praises the old trees. We are talking about the hospital park in the west of Holzkirchen, between Wilhelm-Lover-Strasse and Krankenhausstrasse. Mayor Christoph Schmid (CSU) has decided to restructure the area. Not an easy undertaking, as has now become clear in the Transport Committee. "It was planned to be smaller and is now going to be something bigger," announced Schmid.

In addition to a new lighting concept and the trees, the noise pollution and littering in the park must be taken into account. “It becomes problematic when it gets dark,” says Schmid. Celebrating young people who leave their rubbish lying around are a problem. Sebastian Franz (CSU) announced that he was not a fearful type. “But a nocturnal walk through the park is almost an adventure.” The community has already dismantled seating in the park in order to make supposed meeting places less attractive. But the problem with noisy young people still exists, as it is said in a resolution proposed by the administration.

The mayor emphasized that the park was to be preserved as a place for all generations. This coincides with the wishes of an expert committee, which was to develop plans for the hospital park on behalf of the market municipality. In a workshop attended by street worker Christian Probst, representatives of the nature conservation authority, the municipal works, the building yard and the technical building authority, it was recorded that places were to be built, reported market builder Hintler. Other suggestions related to better lighting and an improved network of paths. These demands were confirmed by a second workshop at which the representatives of the community for youth, senior citizens, disabled people and cyclists exchanged ideas.

Mayor Schmid made it clear that a lighting concept should serve social control. “It's not about the young people having to leave,” added the market builder. "My wish is that those who are there behave well," emphasized Schmid. But Karl Bär (Greens) was skeptical: "I am careful with light, it can also be a waste of resources," said Bär. Schmid appeased: "We don't want to set up a runway for planes, but rather moderate lighting."

The community asked landscape architect Katrin Schulze (Munich) for an assessment of the tree population.

According to Schulze, the inventory represents a value in itself that needs to be handled with care.

The tree population is relatively species-rich and has a good age distribution.

She recommended that the trees be preserved and only replanted in individual locations;

Special attention should be paid to the roots, which is why she urgently advised against sealing.

For Schulze, additional lighting should only be installed where it is absolutely necessary.

The costs for the renovation of the hospital park cannot yet be estimated, explained Hintler.

The first discussion in the committee, however, indicated that more effort is needed than initially thought.

The local councils decided unanimously to push the project forward.
