According to the "Doctors Registration Ordinance", the requirement for registered doctors to be listed on the Specialist Register, if they are not awarded an academician by the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine, the doctor must obtain a medical certificate that his training and qualifications are similar to those of the relevant specialties.
The Secretary for Food and Health, Chen Zhaoshi, responded to a written question by legislator Tommy Cheung today (5th), saying that in the past 10 years, the medical college has received a total of 74 applications for qualification review of foreign-trained specialists, and more than four adults have been trained in the UK. People want to apply for the qualification of internal medicine specialist.
Of these, 49 applications were approved and 24 applications were rejected.
The Secretary for Food and Health, Chen Zhaoshi, disclosed that from 2011 to 2020, the total number of applications received by the medical school for the review of the qualifications of the specialists was 74, an average of less than 10 per year.
Applicants have a large number of specialist training places, of which more than four adults are trained in the UK; 18% are trained in the United States; about 15% are trained in Australia and New Zealand; the rest include Canada, Singapore, Malaysia, France, Macau and Taiwan Wait.
Among the 74 cases, the largest number of people applied for the qualifications of internal medicine, a total of 31 people; 9 people applied for radiology; 9 people applied for surgery; 5 people applied for psychiatry; others applied for ophthalmology, orthopedics, pediatrics, family medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, etc.
49 applications have been approved, 24 applications have been rejected, and one application is under review.
