Uribe's tense interview in Conclusions

In the midst of the chaos in Colombia due to the protests unleashed by the Government's tax reform proposal and the tension exacerbated by reports of abuses by the public force and violence in the midst of riots, one of the voices that has been most applauded and criticized at the same time it is that of former president Álvaro Uribe.

In a tense interview with Fernando del Rincón in Conclusions, Uribe - who from the first moment Uribe was against the tax reform, but in support of the security forces - said that “Colombians must give support to our armed forces ».

Vivanco: What Duque does in Colombia is irresponsible and very serious

"Using soldiers for these tasks, as President Duque is doing, is irresponsible, it is playing with fire, it is very serious," warned José Miguel Vivanco, director of Human Rights Watch for the Americas about the protests in Colombia.

Vivanco advocates dialogue, while part of the population has demonstrated for almost a week to express their disagreement with a tax reform proposal.

The lawyer adds that the comments made by the former president of Colombia Álvaro Uribe about this problem can be classified as "encouraging" violence.

Duque: "We will install a space to listen to citizens and build solutions"

President Iván Duque gave a message to the nation in which he announced that he is going to install a space to listen to citizens in the face of the acts of violence in recent days.

»Nothing justifies the existence of armed people who, based on the legitimate desire of the citizens to hold civic marches, go out to shoot defenseless citizens and cruelly attack our police officers.

Colombians are made of good ... The government does not tolerate today as it has done in the past, any type of violence, "he said.

Army page is down and an Anonymous account attributes it

This Tuesday for several hours the website of the Colombian National Army is down, and a Twitter account linked to Anonymous Colombia says that it is responsible for a cyber attack.

"#Anonymous Colombia withdraws the official page of the Colombian National Army in rejection of the murders and harassment presented during the national strike against the tax reform presented by the government of Iván Duque" says the Twitter account.

CNN en Español cannot independently verify that the reason for the downfall of the Army's page is due to a cyber attack by this group.

What is happening in Colombia?

Tax reform, protests, militarization of cities and threats to the UN

A controversial tax reform promoted by the Iván Duque government took thousands of people to the streets of Colombia a week ago, despite being in the third peak of coronavirus infections.

The premise, for many on the streets and on social media, is that the government is more dangerous than the virus itself.

After six days of demonstrations against the Duque government, the official death toll in the protests rises to 19 - among civilians and policemen -, the injured number in the hundreds and the country remains mired in a human rights crisis that not even the announcement of the president to withdraw the reform has been able to silence.

Days of protests led to the resignation of Finance Minister Alberto Carrasquilla.

This is what we know about the protests in Colombia.
