Digitization is advancing at Commerzbank in Starnberg. This is clear from the 2020 balance sheet. A savings form, on the other hand, is on the sidelines.

Digitization is advancing at Commerzbank in Starnberg.

This is clear from the 2020 balance sheet.

A savings form, on the other hand, is on the sidelines.

Starnberg - 308 new private and corporate customers, 50 percent more banking app users, many construction loans despite the crisis and a clear trend towards sustainable investments: This is the balance sheet of the Starnberg Commerzbank branch for 2020. Branch director Roland Schelonke and Daniel-Andre Kramer from asset management looked back on the past year in a press conference - corona-related by telephone conference.

"The pandemic has determined business," said Schelonke at the beginning.

This can be seen from the 41 million euros in loans approved by companies.

In the end, however, not even half of this was called up, "only" 17 million euros.

Schelonke spoke of an "unbelievable boost to digitization from Corona that might not have happened like this".

The best example: only ten percent of customers made paper transfers.

"There were times when the mailbox was empty for days."

Despite digitization: Commerzbank values personal advice

Older customers don't have to worry about it being dismantled.

Schelonke and Kramer emphasized several times how important good personal advice is “despite all digitization”.

According to a current study by the Institute for Management and Economic Research, Commerzbank is the major bank with the best advice.

Starnberg-based Commerzbank with its 16 employees has been open continuously since the beginning of the Corona crisis and has not restricted the times - in contrast to smaller ones in Weilheim, Geretsried or Bad Tölz.

The executives confirmed that one notices it “the next day” when, for example, the Kreissparkasse closes a branch.

Mind you, to new customers.

Starnberg a predestined location for banks

Quite apart from that, Starnberg is a predestined location for a bank: Of the almost 5000 customers, 300 to 400 use the special advice provided by "Wealth Management".

These are particularly wealthy customers who (also as a family) bring at least EUR 250,000 in investment volume with them.

Especially (but not only) with them, those responsible have noticed an increasing trend: towards green, i.e. sustainable or ecological, plants.

"Every fifth securities savings plan has invested in sustainable funds." For example, in the solar or wind energy sector.

"You can save yourself the savings book"

And those who build with ecological materials will be rewarded by the bank with interest discounts.

The crisis does not seem to change anything in the construction boom: The company increased construction financing last year by eight percent to a volume of 167 million euros.

“Investors made out of savers”: This is what Commerzbank likes to say in times when interest rates are low.

Kramer backed this up with a number.

The securities savings plans would have increased by 43 percent in 2020.

And he said quite frankly: "You can save yourself the savings account."
