The so-called sponsorship affair has changed the district.

It's been a good seven years since the avalanche started rolling with a report from our newspaper.

Now the Federal Court of Justice has met on the matter - and postponed a decision.

Miesbach - Anyone who moved to the Miesbach district in the nineties or noughties will sooner or later be amazed at the omnipresence of the Miesbach Tegernsee district savings bank.

Over and over again, the financial institute and CEO Georg Bromme acted aggressively as a benefactor, sponsoring wherever possible - in public, but also behind the scenes.

It was a give and take in which politics was also closely involved.

Celebrations, trips by the board of directors and mayors as well as gifts.

The Kreissparkasse paid a lot.

Today the financial institution has shrunk to normal, takes care of its business instead of influencing district politics via detours.

Miesbach on the way to the "normal" district

The sponsorship affair and other misconduct by former district administrator Jakob Kreidl (plagiarism and relatives affair) helped Wolfgang Rzehak into office, the first Green district administrator in Bavaria.

And the district assembly, in which many politicians sat who benefited from the generosity of the Sparkasse, imposed a code of conduct on itself.

Miesbach is now more "normal".

Sponsoring affair: Federal Court of Justice adjourned

The people in the district have long drawn a line under the affair for themselves. With the judgment of April 8, 2019, it was not over. The public prosecutor and Georg Bromme appealed. Two years later, the Federal Court of Justice in Karlsruhe has now discussed the judgment. As a reminder: Bromme was sentenced to one and a half years imprisonment by the large Chamber of Commerce at Munich II district court and Kreidl, as district administrator also head of the administrative board, to eleven months, each for infidelity, each on probation. In addition, the court muttered 300 social hours to the former Sparkasse boss, Kreidl 200. It is still unclear whether the judgment will endure. The Federal Court of Justice negotiated the appeal yesterday. In the afternoon, however, the chamber announced that the verdict would not be pronounced until May 18.The presiding judge Rolf Raum said in view of the complex case that the Senate needs more time.

Kreidl would have agreed with the verdict, but the public prosecutor's office wasn't

With the announced ruling by the Federal Court of Justice, the ex-district administrator and the ex-Sparkasse boss may now be in the national public for the last time. A public that the protagonists of the sponsorship affair had probably already largely pushed out of awareness. And at least Kreidl would have liked to remain in the background. Two years ago, his lawyers made no secret of their approval of the verdict. But the prosecution wanted it differently. Because: The regional court had not recognized any benefits granted or accepted. If convicted for these offenses, the guilt would have weighed heavier - especially for people who hold public offices - and the verdict should accordingly have been more severe.Bromme's lawyers, on the other hand, found the judges' guilty verdict clearly exaggerated.

The verdict will probably not be “blown over and over”, but parts of it may be objected to

Kreidl's lawyer Klaus Leipold also appeared before the Federal Court of Justice on Tuesday.

According to his presentation - and some people in the district may see this similarly - the conduct of the Sparkasse on site was perceived as completely normal.

The lawyer spoke of "Bavarian-Baroque, customary, habitual behavior".

His colleague Ali Norouzi said that in the Miesbach district it took a little longer for compliance rules to prevail.

After the negotiation, Leipold did not dare to estimate where the journey was going.

But he does not believe that "the verdict will be blown up in a bow."

Should the BGH complain about parts of the matter, they will be referred back to the regional court and negotiated again there by another chamber.

It will take some time until the district has fully returned to normality - depending on the judgment of the BGH, a little longer or shorter.
