2021-05-05T20:31:57.025Z

Please note:

during this Covid period, some establishments are still closed.

Grand Ferdinand Hotel, the big gap

With a swimming pool heated to 23 degrees in fine weather, the hotel has 186 rooms in five categories ranging from the unique "Grand Suite" of 100 square meters (from € 1,000)… to the simple dormitory (at from 30 €)! Which offers eight wooden bunk beds in the style of the Orient Express. We dream of long journeys and intimate mornings in the private bathroom before taking advantage of the common areas. At the Grand Ferdinand Hotel, chic is on every floor, in the details: there, a Lobmeyr crystal chandelier (large Austrian house), here ceramic switches evoking the building of the 1950s and finally the elegant charcoal gray dressing the rooms. bedrooms. Austria can eat to the fullest at the restaurant Meissl & Schadn, known for its “Wiener Schnitzel”, or at the Gulash &Söhne whose snacks are accompanied, depending on the mood, with a beer at € 1.50 or a glass of champagne at € 16. At Grand Ferdinand, there is definitely something for all tastes and budgets.

In the peloton of the hotel, we find the sparkling Marvin Mangalino who perfectly animates the place alongside his mother, in the kitchen of the only Filipino restaurant in the city. The Brillantengrund, with its green courtyard, is an essential address in the effervescent 7th arrondissement. To sleep there too.The 34 rooms invite you to plunge into time between the 1950s and 1970s. The furniture has been lovingly sourced, exuding a certain nostalgia. It would almost float an air of vacation in the grandparents ...

Hotel Schani Salon, unusual

The Hotel Schani Salon is a small 4-star hotel located on Mariahilfer Strasse, Vienna's largest shopping street.

Hotel Schani Salon / Photo press

This hotel opened at the end of 2018 in an Art Nouveau building from 1906. The theme? Famous people of the city. Otto Wagner, Gustav Klimt and his muse Emilie Flöge, Egon Schiele and Sigmund Freud make their discreet entry into the 24 rooms under the brushstrokes of artist Oskar Kubinecz. More visible, the furniture takes its ease in an unexpected way: half of a chair, as if embedded in the wall, acts as a coat rack; a desk, cut in half, stands upright on its two legs; a velvet suitcase, on foot, turns into a stool… Fun. As for the bathroom, it is simply separated by a curtain in most rooms. Practical detail in a pandemic period: check-in can be done via an app and the phone serves as a room key.

The room to be reserved:

n ° 3, the largest of the “Smart Street Room”, overlooking Mariahilfer Strasse.

The price:

from € 120 for “The Smart Street room”, breakfast from € 14.

Hotel Schani Wien, for the choice of bed

Perched on a mezzanine, the bed of the “Smart Maisonette 7” is under a blue and white sky.

Schani Hotels / Gregor Hofbauer

It's called sleeping with your head in the clouds! Perched on a mezzanine, the bed sits under a blue and white sky and wedged between two nets, preventing sleepers from falling. We do not risk anything, of course, but people with vertigo will avoid the “Smart Maisonette” category and will opt for a “Smart Street” or a “Smart Garden” among the 135 rooms and 10 studios. Opened in 2015 near Vienna Central Station, Hotel Schani Wien offered itself the color palette, yellow and pink, of Archisphere architects and designers. Cheerful, it goes well with the city map in XXL size which allows you to quickly find your way. The strength of the hotel lies in its reservation system allowing you to choose your floor, room and view ... A good idea, coupled witha check-in via his phone… which also opens the door to his room. The Schani Wien has developed its own application giving train timetables, the weather forecast or simply the best addresses in the city. Note, the hotel has a small green patio patio.

The room to book:

n ° 621, a "Smart Maisonette" bathed in sunlight in the morning, with a king-size bed on the mezzanine, and particularly quiet because on the 6th floor.

The price:

from € 80 per double room, breakfast from € 13.

Hotel Beethoven, a beautiful symphony

Room 504 is the most romantic room in the Beethoven hotel in Vienna.

Hotel Beethoven / Photo press

The hotel owes its name to Ludwig van Beethoven who composed his only opera,

Fidelio

, in the Vienna Theater, a neighboring building. But not only. For its owners, the Ludwigs (it can't be invented!), Music is life. The mother, Sissi, a great pianist, played for a long time on the Bösendorfer grand piano, which today resounds with Sunday concerts reserved for guests (excluding Covid). As for the daughter, Barbara, the director of the place, she could have had a great career as a pianist if she hadn't taken a tangent… Can we dream of a better introduction to this city where all is music? The partition continues in the floors with decoration sometimes Fin de siècle sometimes Viennese Cafés style or other. The rooms are dedicated to a famous character who tells the city even more intimately through a subtle contemporary play of colors. Breakfast question, the buffet has disappeared in favor of table service - ordering the day before. The hotel is located a stone's throw from the famous Naschmarkt where the Ludwig family opened an eponymous bar in 2020.

The room to reserve:

the 504 dedicated to Katharina Schratt, a famous actress and the last mistress of Emperor Franz Joseph.

This is the most romantic room with its contemporary round bathtub.

The price:

from 100 € per night.

Ruby Marie Hotel Vienna, simplicity of setting

Here, it's the details that make the difference, like this Marshall speaker for perfect sound.

Ruby Marie Hotel Vienna / Photo press

Ruby Marie hardly bothered with decoration. No frills for its 186 rooms, simple but comfortable. This is the whole philosophy of the Ruby Group, from Munich, which spreads its hotels in Germany, Austria and England. White walls, barely a painting on the wall, a (real) good bed… And details that make the difference including Marshall speakers for perfect sound and ultra-fast WiFi. No wall for the bathroom but a glass wall for the shower - a curtain provides the desired privacy. Here again, no frills either: the welcome products, designed by the Ruby house, are paraben-free and preservative-free. And once again, the detail is well understood: a soap for men and another for women, just to offer two different scents. Another strong point, the roof garden which hosts breakfast, afternoon coffee and sunset cocktail when the weather permits. Note the curves of the building built in 1911 to house a department store. The hotel is in the 7th arrondissement.

The room to book:

a room in the “Loft Rooms” category for its view of the city.

The price:

from € 69 per double room.

Magdas Hotel, sleep for a good cause

A stone's throw from Prater Park, along the Danube Canal, this hotel has opted for an up-cycled decoration.

Peter Barci / Magdas Hotel

Committed and militant, the Magdas Hotel is managed by around twenty refugees and a team of around fifteen hotel professionals. More than 16 countries are represented and nearly 20 languages spoken… This open-mindedness calls for dreaming big in the 78 rooms, not one of which is identical. When it was created in 2015, the hotel opted, for reasons of budget and principles, for an up-cycled decoration with the help of architect Daniel Büchel. The furniture all have a history like those metal cabinets used by the Austrian railways. No television in the rooms, but reception is happy to lend a tablet. A stone's throw from Prater Park, along the Danube Canal, the Magdas is an urban oasis thanks to its courtyard and affordable restaurant. Thetogether is a great social enterprise success.

The room to book:

n ° 421, Kalifati Suite for its size, natural light, atmosphere and… its small bowling alley.

The price:

from € 71 per night and € 133 for the 421 suite, breakfast at € 14.

Grätzlhotel, the real "boutique hotel"

On three sites, the Graetzlhotel offers spacious rooms furnished in former workshops and shops in Vienna.

Monika Nguyen / Grätzlhotel

Yesterday a baker, a seamstress and a lamp maker occupied the premises. Today, these old shops, and more, have been transformed into hotel suites, scattered across three parts of the city. On the ground floor, and behind display cases or simple windows, 26 rooms have been furnished by BMW Architekten with a nod to the last occupants - old lamps, for example, evoke the former electrician. Equipped with a kitchenette, the places invite to live in complete autonomy, like a Viennese. The reception ? The street ! On arrival and departure, the key can be removed using a code that opens a mini-safe. A problem, a question or just want to chat? The Grätzelhotel has several contact points and partners, who are happy to share.Because here we come above all to approach the city differently, far from the tourist circuits and the unmissable. Neighborhood life around Karmelitermarkt, Belvedere and Meidlinger Markt can be discovered through the team's good addresses. Free bicycle available.

The room to book:

hidden in a courtyard, the loft-inspired Karmelitermarkt “Garden Suite”, bright and colorful, which can accommodate up to three people.

The market is outside the door.

The price:

from 79 € per night without breakfast.

Hotel Daniel Vienna, the unexpected

What is special about the “Panorama” room?

This hammock faces the large window.

Daniel Vienna / Photo press

A boat on the roof in the middle of beehives, a caravan parked in a vegetable garden… Hotel Daniel Vienna likes travel in the broad sense and stillness, too.

Who would have imagined the

Misconceivable

sailboat

of Austrian artist Erwin Wurm running aground on the seventh floor of this 1962 building? Nobody except the hotelier Florian Weitzer who has more than one trick up his sleeve (and five establishments in Austria). After a first Hotel Daniel in Graz, he opened this Viennese address in 2011 on the same principle, ie “intelligent luxury at a fair price”. By intelligent luxury, we must understand simplicity. Nothing protrudes in the 116 rooms (from 16 to 40 m2) except the hammock in the “Panorama”. They look out through large bay windows. The hotel's breakfast is well known to the Viennese who often come to mingle among the guests. What gives a happy life to the hotel. Bicycles and vespas for rent in fine weather.

The room to book:

in the garden, in front of the hotel, the trailer fitted out with a bathtub (for lack of ceiling height!) But a bit noisier than the rooms because it is close to the road.

Alternatively, a “Panorama” room (517, 518 or 605) for the view of the Belvedere Palace.

The price:

from € 89 for a “Smart” double room, breakfast from € 19.

25hours Hotel Vienna MuseumsQuartier,

the show must go on

This pretty poetry is accompanied by a real comfort developed by this hotel chain born in Hamburg.

25hours / Press photo

On track ! At 25hours Vienna, you quickly think of yourself as an acrobat, a juggler or a tiger trainer. The decoration, designed by the Dreimeta agency, evokes the circus in all its splendor. Follow the red carpet, that of the stage, leading to the 183 rooms and 34 suites. Open a door and discover artists frozen on the walls amid a rabbit emerging from a hat and a carousel. The imagination takes us into the wonderful world of childhood. A stack of suitcases welcomes the television when the lampshades seem to come out of a box ... This pretty poetry is accompanied by a real comfort developed by this hotel chain born in Hamburg. In the evening, let's go to the best addresses in the 7th arrondissement to enjoy the rooftop and its Dachboden Bar,“Combination of beach bar and canteen of parliament - without the sand and the costumes”, they say here. Then, an Italian dish at the Ribelli restaurant, and to finish in style, pressing of his own vinyl. Circus magic. We applaud very loudly!

The room to book:

the Extra Large room (714) or the Gigantic Panoram (509), both “analog” with a vinyl record player, an old television, a Polaroid, a typewriter…

The price:

from € 139 per double room, excluding breakfast.

25hours Hotel Vienna MuseumsQuartier, Lerchenfelder Strasse 1-3, 1070 Vienna, Austria.
