The new ship on Lake Starnberg does not bear the name Münsing again.

This is a bit of a shame in the lake community.

Münsing

- The new electric motor ship (EMS) on Lake Starnberg has, as reported, been named "EMS Berg" after its predecessor "MS Berg".

In Münsing's neighboring community, people are of course happy to keep the name.

Münsing himself came away empty-handed and accordingly a little disappointed.

For years, the community has applied to be the godmother of an excursion boat, such as an "MS or EMS Ambach".

When asked, Mayor Michael Grasl explains that it is always difficult for Bayerische Seenschifffahrt to do the right thing when there are several applicants, as in this case.

“As a former pilot municipality of the Oberland energy transition, we would have been delighted to be the godfather of an e-boat.

Ambach or Ammerland as important and historical lake and fishing towns would have been the obvious choice. ”Besides Pöcking / Possenhofen, Münsing is the only lake commune that has not yet been taken into account when naming a steamer.

In Grasl's opinion, an “MS Bayern” is “not very creative”.

Perhaps Münsing will have a chance in a few years' time with the successor to “Bayern”, he hopes.

Why not a Count Pocci as namesake?

The mayor thinks that Bayerische Seenschifffahrt, which is subordinate to the Ministry of Finance, could have said goodbye to old practices.

A ship in honor of well-known artists or royalty like Sissi or Count Pocci would also have been an option.

There are enough of them at the Lake of Princes and Artists.

Unfortunately, Münsing has only lost one stopping point since the Ammerlander Steg was closed and thus lost some of its weight, although Münsing has by far the longest portion of the lake shore of all eight municipalities.

“All in all, we certainly don't hold a grudge and we are happy with our friends from Berg.

At least the name stayed on the east bank, ”explains Grasl.

He thanks Martin Bachhuber, member of the CSU state parliament, who actively supported Münsing's application.
