Culture is not only literature, art, readings and visions that you navigate, but it is a way of life related to political, economic and social reality, and it is one of the most important components of our existence in the world today.

Through these perceptions, Dr. Wahb Roumieh begins in his book “From Cultural Issues”, in which he addresses the major transformations that the culture has experienced in the Arab world, the effects of the major political changes that the region experienced on it and the culture and its role in challenging or responding to external factors affecting them.

The book, which consists of two main chapters, is devoted, the first of which is to talk about general culture issues through four chapters. The first discusses axes that include the ego and the other, globalization and the Arabs, globalization, culture and dialogue between reality and necessity.

As for the second chapter, under the title “The Impact of Language and Culture on the Arab Component”, Roumieh touched on issues related to language and its relationship to thought, culture and identity, while in the third chapter, entitled “A resumed view on culture and cultural globalization”, he deals with the concept of culture, its characteristics and its relationship to civilization.

In the fourth chapter, the author discusses “the concept of identity in the discourse of Arab thinkers from the beginning of the Renaissance to the present day” through two stages, the first of which included Islamic, secular, pan-Arabism and nationalist trends.

The writer devotes chapter two to literary culture issues by addressing the contemporary Arab poem and the development of its content and tools and its relationship with other arts and its references and the poem's crisis between the creator and the recipient to shed light on the space allocated to the national issue and the question of Palestine.

Under the title Towards a Contemporary Critical Vision, the researcher presents the hypothesis of scientific research, the Arabism of criticism between dream and illusion, touching upon the current critical landscape and scientific criticism from theorizing to disintegration and closure and the map of contemporary applied criticism.

Roumieh concluded his book with a set of questions that in themselves constitute deep and thorny issues to research from defining our identity, what is the concept of culture, its nature and functions in society, can an Arab culture be built that has its own peculiarities during globalization and the concept of criticism whether it is a science or art or between the two and what is its relationship to culture and does it have a role In its societal functions, or is it a special activity that is not related to national and national values ​​and the concept of poetry? Is it a linguistic cognitive and aesthetic structure, or is the cognitive element in it marginal and the concept of heritage, and what is our position on it between estrangement and sanctification and protection for it?

It is noteworthy that Dr. Wahb Roumieh is a professor at the University of Damascus and a member of the Arabic Language Academy. He has a group of books, the most famous of which are “The Journey in the Pre-Islamic Poem” and “Ibn Zaidoun's Poetry, Poetry and Memory.

And a book of cultural issues, one of the publications of the Syrian General Book Authority, within the series of cultural horizons, and it is located in 431 of the intermediate parcels.
