Faced with the scourge of selfies on the rails, SNCF is launching an awareness campaign on social networks

2021-05-06T07:14:37.821Z

The SNCF is trying to dissuade young people from risking their lives on the rails, just to take their picture.

A new dangerous trend is observed on social networks: young people photograph themselves on the railways and film themselves on the roofs of subways.

This illegal practice is not without danger.

Of 10,000 intrusions per year, many are fatal.

Faced with this scourge, SNCF is therefore launching a prevention and awareness campaign aimed at young people on social networks.

Taking pictures on the tracks is to risk never taking pictures again.

This is the slogan of the awareness campaign launched on Monday 3 May by SNCF Réseau.

Younger people who venture off the docks are often unaware of the risks they run.

In 2020, 24 people died and 11 were seriously injured in France.

From Monday May 3 to Saturday June 5, a web series called #SurLesRails, directed by Chris Macari aims to make an impression.

The first spot is available on YouTube and Snapchat.

It tells the story of a teenage girl, taking selfies on train tracks.

She was in a bend and she did not see the train coming, she lost both legs,

” said a voiceover.

In June, it is relatives of the victims who will testify on the networks, in order to explain "

these moments when everything changed and when the accidents could have been avoided

", specifies the railway group in a press release. Several safety messages will also be visible: “

220 volts are enough to die from electrocution. Imagine with 25,000

”, or“

Entering a prohibited site is taking the risk of never leaving it.

"

For Jean-Claude Larrieu, director of safety at SNCF network, there are three types of danger on the rails. “

That of collision with a train that may not forgive. The danger of electrocution is all the more insidious as the electricity is not visible. And the danger of falling, we tend not to think about it, especially those who do tags or urban exploration in prohibited places

, ”said the SNCF official to RMC / BFMTV.
