Prince Philip left "peacefully" at 99 at Windsor Castle, Buckingham Palace announced at the time.
The certificate is signed by Sir Huw Thomas, head of the royal medical house.
The description “old age” is accepted if the patient is over 80 years old and if the doctor who has personally cared for the patient for a long period of time is observing a gradual decline in his condition.
As such, it is suggested that there was no other identifiable illness or injury that contributed to his death, including the heart condition that forced him to undergo a surgical procedure a few weeks before he died.
The Duke's death was recorded in the royal district of Windsor and Maidenhead by his private secretary, Brigadier Archie Miller-Bakewell, on April 13, four days after his death.

The certificate nods to the Duke's Greek heritage, as well as his own surname, Mountbatten, which is said to have fought for use by the royal family.
For this he lists the full name of the Duke as: "His Royal Highness Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh formerly known as Prince Philip of Greece and Denmark formerly known as Philip Mountbatten."
The document also lists his occupation as a naval officer, a successful career of which he was enormously proud, and as a prince of the United Kingdom.
The Duke's last hospital admission dates from February 17. Born in Greece in 1921 (although in exile since his youth), he was going to turn 100 on June 10, a date for which a special celebration was being prepared, despite the fact that he decided to retire from public life after decades of service in August 2017. Before, Elizabeth II's husband entered a clinic in December 2019, having to interrupt his summer vacation. More spectacular was the accident he suffered in January 2019, when he was unharmed from a mishap while driving a Range Rover in which his car overturned, and for which he ended up giving up his driving license.
In April 2018 and in the same hospital, Jorge VII, Felipe underwent surgery for a hip problem, for which a replacement was placed.
Almost a year earlier, in June 2017, he had been forced to go through it for a couple of days due to an infection.
In 2012 he was not present at all the Jubilee celebrations of Queen Elizabeth II due to a bladder infection that forced him to be hospitalized for five days, while in 2011 he was forced to spend the Christmas holidays in the hospital to undergo an operation to clear a blocked artery.
Despite all these ailments and his years, Felipe de Edimburgo remained quite active although in recent times leading a retired life with Elizabeth II with whom he spent the time of pandemic in Windsor.
There they were both vaccinated against covid.
