U.S. State Department officials said today (Wednesday) to Walla!

Because they are "deeply concerned" about the decision made yesterday in the Knesset to start promoting the law for the training of illegal outposts in the West Bank.

"These outposts have long been considered illegal under Israeli law," senior U.S. officials said.

The law to train illegal outposts was passed yesterday in the Knesset's organizing committee as part of an initiative by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the Likud, and was granted an exemption from the discount obligation, which allows it to be put to a vote in an expedited procedure.

The vote on the law itself has not yet been placed on the Knesset agenda.

"We have said for a long time that it is critical that Israel refrains from making unilateral moves that only increase tensions and keep us out of peace," senior U.S. State Department officials said.

"This includes the evacuation of Palestinian residents, construction in the settlements and the demolition of houses - and this certainly also includes the training of outposts that have been considered illegal under Israeli law for years."
