The media reported on May 5 that the EU failed to obtain the support of all 27 member states due to Hungary’s re-action, and finally shelved the plan to take action and issue a statement on China’s strengthening of Hong Kong’s control.
A person familiar with the matter said that the final conclusion was to remove it from the agenda of the preparatory meeting.
The preparatory meeting was held on May 5.
According to documents obtained by the media, the EU listed 12 measures, including a comprehensive review of its relationship with Hong Kong, discussions with member states on its extradition treaty with China, and coordination with the United Nations and the Group of Seven (G7) on Hong Kong’s position. , In response to the "Hong Kong National Security Law", it is applicable to EU citizens outside the territory.
One of the more notable ones is the proposal to support the "mobility of high-quality or skilled labor" and to coordinate the "welcoming Hong Kong people who have been oppressed by political beliefs to Europe."
The EU originally planned to hold two meetings of foreign ministers on May 6 or 10, one of which will discuss the above measures.
Similar incidents have happened before.
British media quoted two diplomats reporting on April 16 that the European Union wanted to issue a statement criticizing China's implementation of the "Hong Kong National Security Act" in Hong Kong. Hungary did not approve and block it.
The report stated that officials have since worked hard to draft new conclusions for the May meeting, but in the end history repeats itself.

The EU planned to issue a statement criticizing the "Minato National Security Act" at the Foreign Ministers' Meeting on April 19, but it failed to win the support of all 27 member states.
A senior EU diplomat said: “Hungary’s reason is that there are too many problems between the EU and China.”
An EU official stated that the declaration was withdrawn during the approval process.
According to a person who participated in the meeting, officials from EU member states will still hold a video conference on April 19, but the meeting will not be held on China's issues.
Related issues will be postponed for an additional month.
