Recently, four confirmed cases of the variant virus who had travelled abroad have flown into the community in Hong Kong.

The Department of Health confirmed today (5th) that during the 21-day quarantine period at the hotel, the contractor Huada Gene was responsible for the nasal and throat swabs collected on the 12th and 19th days.

The 29-year-old Indian man (#11643) was diagnosed about 10 days after completing the quarantine, and the virus load was high at that time; while the 38-year-old Kennedy Terrace Filipino maid (#11730), the 28-year-old Indian pregnant housewife (#11789) in the Meiyuan Building in Tsim Sha Tsui and A 48-year-old Filipino domestic helper (#11791) living in Block R of Allway Gardens was diagnosed with a CT value of over 30.

Zhang Zhujun, director of the Department of Infectious Diseases of the Center for Health Protection of the Department of Health, said that the patient has a low amount of virus and has repeatedly tested false negatives or has not been exposed to the location of the virus.

The government expert consultant, Professor Yuan Guoyong of the Department of Microbiology of the University of Hong Kong once stated in case #11730 that a sampler was suspected of sloppy work and suggested that the authorities randomly sample negative samples for inspection.

As he planned to return to Dubai, he was tested at the Yau Ma Tei Community Testing Center on April 16 and was diagnosed with a double mutant virus strain. At that time, the CT value was 15 to 17, and the virus load was high. It was the first local community mutant virus. patient.

Indian pregnant women diagnosed with low virus in the fifth test

A 28-year-old Indian pregnant housewife (#11789) arrived in Hong Kong from India on April 4 and was quarantined at the Regal Oriental Hotel on April 25. Three tests were negative.

She then went to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for abdominal pain on April 25, and the sample collected in the Accident and Emergency Department was negative. On April 30, she went to the community testing center for testing on the 26th day after arrival. The result was "No Confirmed.” By May 2nd, he was admitted to the hospital for testing and found that both the virus and antibody results were positive. A 48-year-old Filipino domestic helper (#11791) from Allway Gardens arrived in Hong Kong from the Philippines on March 31 and was quarantined at the Dorsett Wanchai Hotel on April 21. The results of three tests were negative.

She was tested again on April 25, and the result was negative; on May 2, she accepted a mandatory test for foreign domestic helpers. At first, the result in a private laboratory was uncertain. The public laboratory found that she was positive, and the CT value was very high, representing the virus. The amount is very low.

She was admitted to the hospital on May 2 and took two samples. The result of the nasopharyngeal swab was uncertain, and the sputum sample was positive, with a CT value of more than 34, with a double mutant virus strain.

Zhang Zhujun, director of the Infectious Diseases Division of the Center for Health Protection of the Department of Health, said at a press conference yesterday that the patient's virus load is low, and that multiple tests of "false negatives" or no contact with the location of the virus may also be related to the quality of the sampling.

Yuan Guoyong recently suspected that the sampler's sloppy work caused false negatives

Yuan Guoyong, a government expert consultant and chair professor of the Department of Microbiology, Hong Kong University, stated earlier on Case #11730 that it was suspected that a sampler was sloppy, causing false negatives.

He understands the work of the sampler, "Some samplers put up in depth, and a patient complained that he had no work to do, so it counts as much as a slap on the outside of the microphone. A lot of public education is required, and the sampler must make it clear. It’s so hard to get in, but you have to accept that if you don’t get too many cells on the mucous membrane, the test will be falsely negative.”

He said that the positive samples of the testing contractor would be reviewed by the Public Health Laboratory Service of the Centre for Health Protection, but the negative samples would not, and there may be false negatives. He suggested that the authorities randomly sample negative samples, "every 1,000 negative samples The laboratory of the Center for Protection has tested negative for the mimics. If you see how many human cells are there, you will know whether the sampling is good or not."

Xu Shuchang, a government expert consultant and chair professor of the Department of Respiratory System at CUHK, said that if you want to switch to nasopharyngeal swab sampling, a negative air pressure environment is required to ensure the safety of samplers, but it is difficult for hotels to do so.

He suggested that the contractor hire experienced samplers to ensure the quality of nasal cavity and throat swab samples.

Professor Yuan Guoyong of the Department of Microbiology at the University of Hong Kong said that it is not yet known how the mutant virus spreads in the community. At this stage, the most important thing is to track the entire transmission chain.
