Victories that kill

Every generation needs to gather around a flag and an aspirational motto and several have done it together this time in Madrid to chant this keyword: freedom.

Many of us are perplexed because we did not feel that we were lacking, while the other two revolutionary commandments that founded our world in 1789 do: equality and fraternity.

Both are missing, well they do, and as long as the three do not complement each other, true freedom will be nothing more than a beautiful and hollow word.

But knowing how to listen to the thunderous enthusiasm of the PP voters around Genoa, the euphoria with which the masks with the Ayuso motto have spread, the menus that include it in their dishes and the beers "the cane of Spain" with His face is our obligation today, and I hope we know how to decipher it without the simplification that they seem to entail.

Just as Trump knew how to connect with the immense tiredness of what is politically correct in the United States, Ayuso has known how to connect with pandemic fatigue, on the one hand, but also with the hives that the role of Pablo Iglesias raises in a large part of the population, ERC and Bildu in Sánchez's alliances.

This was serious.

There is another urgent matter that deserves to be calibrated, and it is the inability of the PSOE to manage the victory that it amassed in 2019. Ángel Gabilondo has not lost only because of a two-sided campaign in which he vetoed “Iglesias” while he appealed to “Pablo” as if they were different people. It all started long before. When Ayuso sent junk food to underprivileged children in confinement, when he got tangled up in Sarasola's apartment, so staggeringly cheap, when there were no trackers in Madrid and the second wave was spreading out of control or when he closed primary care centers without finding face opposition commensurate with your audacity. As happened to Ciudadanos in Catalonia, where after winning the 2017 elections he fell apart for not knowing how to do anything with that victory, the PSOE also did not know what to do with his.There are victories that kill and Salvador Illa should be careful.

Today, the effort must focus on deciphering the value of freedom as a concept that is only possible if it is accompanied by an equality that prevents ghetto schools or a different longevity by neighborhoods, as it clearly happens in Madrid, and of a fraternity that includes those who Ayuso calls "kept". Take care of it. That is the priority.
