MVG Rad is hardly making any progress in the Miesbach district: Warngau will not participate in the rental bike system either.

The municipal council has not approved the introduction.

by public transport and switch to bicycles - not just at the home station, where your own bike is parked, but in a network throughout the greater Munich area: the MVG rental bike system makes it possible. An expansion in municipalities in the Miesbach district would promise a boost to the traffic turnaround, because the rental bike system could make switching to the train more attractive in many cases. Warngau, however, is not there: the local council - like the Waakirchen committee before - has now given up.

The introduction of the rental bike system of the Münchner Verkehrsgesellschaft (MVG) takes a fresh start in the northern district. The charm of MVG Rad lies on the one hand in its existing distribution in the city and district of Munich - although the municipality of Sauerlach has not yet been on board there. On the other hand, users can find a rental bike at short notice via smartphone app and thus cover a distance quickly and easily. The booking is billed to the minute. In the Munich district, eight cents per minute are due, with a maximum of twelve euros per day. In contrast to the “return area” in Munich, it should only be possible to return bikes in the Miesbach district to designated MVG bike stations. Which one in the network doesn't matter.

The model from the Munich district is to serve as a blueprint for the financing. The state and federal government subsidized the construction of the stations with 80 percent, the municipalities and the district took on ten percent each. If the company does not pay the fees, the district and the municipalities share the operating cost deficit.

The municipality of Warngau wants to start with the smallest station with five rental bikes at the train station, explained Mayor Klaus Thurnhuber (FWG) in the local council.

He clarified that a five-station station would be subsidized, so that the community would have to pay around 3000 euros.

The town hall chief estimated the cost of maintenance at 2000 euros a year.

After five years, the community can resign if the system does not establish itself.

All in all, costs were roughly estimated at 13,000 euros in five years.

After three years, the station could be relocated.

“To the industrial park, for example,” suggested Thurnhuber.

Does the rental bike fit into the space?

Skepticism in the Warngau municipal council

“It only makes sense if several communities join forces so that you can simply give it back,” emphasized the mayor and asked to give the system a chance and gain experience with it, provided that the neighboring communities of Holzkirchen, Valley and Weyarn also participate.

Thurnhuber explained that the bikes are “robust” because they contain a small computer for online booking and have to withstand a lot in practice, especially in Munich. This is exactly what was criticized by Adolf Schwarzer (CSU): “They are very cheerful,” he said. When he made the impression, he initially thought that it had to be an e-bike - but no: “This is cycling material like from the Middle Ages.” Winfried Dresel (Greens) contradicted the impression that such bikes were too heavy: “Me I used to ride the train a lot, I can't complain. ”However, he was also unsure whether the system could prevail across the board.

Anton Bader (FWG) was also skeptical: “Nobody rides this bike on the Taubenberg.

And if someone goes to work regularly, he'll buy his own. ”Harald Stanke (FWG) explained that he was on the“ savings trip for the future ”.

Reinhard Bücher (Greens) pleaded for waiting, that "costs the community nothing".

Warngau is anyway only on the edge of the area.

Michael Spannring (Greens) wanted to try it.

“The system is not perfect, but I can't think of anything better.” Leonhard Obermüller (CSU) also wanted to give MVG Rad a chance.

"If I don't try it, I can't evaluate it either."

The majority was not worth the attempt, but also the manageable costs: The introduction got only 6:11 votes, it is therefore rejected.
