Nuremberg was recognized as a cooperative city.

Three projects were able to convince the jury of the Federal Prize from the Franconian metropolis.

Nuremberg - For its excellent culture of cooperation, the city of Nuremberg * was awarded the “Federal Prize for Cooperative City” on Tuesday (May 4th) at the digital 14th Federal Congress on National Urban Development Policy, according to a report from the Nuremberg City Hall.

With twelve other award-winning cities, Nuremberg is a role model for many other municipalities in Germany.

Nuremberg applied with three projects that were jointly singled out by the jury.

The prize money amounts to 15,000 euros.

Nuremberg: Lord Mayor Marcus König is happy about the award

The prize is awarded by the “National Urban Development Policy” initiative. Since 2017, the federal, state and local authorities have been united. With the federal prize, the community initiative honors municipalities who actively promote the work of citizens, associations, neighborhood groups and socio-cultural actors through various activities and examples and thus contribute to broad participation in and co-creation of urban spaces.

"I am pleased that Nuremberg has received a nationwide award with the three projects and is a role model for other municipalities in Germany," says Mayor Marcus König (CSU *). “At the city, we attach great importance to involving citizens, initiatives and associations, as well as many other private actors, in the work of the community. Urban development only goes along with, not against the local people. This is the only way we can find the necessary and important acceptance; this is the only way we can get the

residents on board. A high degree of cooperation also contributes to a high degree of satisfaction with the residential area. Surveys confirm that the majority of the people of Nuremberg like to live in the city, ”emphasizes the mayor, as the town hall report shows.

Nuremberg: Jury enthusiastic about the cooperation culture in the city

The jury for the Federal Prize was enthusiastic about the culture of cooperation in Nuremberg *.

She is convinced that the award-winning Nuremberg projects can serve as a model for many others across Germany.

Literally it says: “Cultural and social district work already has a long tradition in Nuremberg.

With the 'spaces of possibility', the city of Nuremberg has now set up a special program for neighborhood ideas to upgrade and revitalize public space.

The space compass serves as an intermediary for artists and cultural workers with limited space.

Other instruments drive the expansion of the culture of recognition and enable cooperation on an equal footing. "

The city of Nuremberg submitted three cooperation projects in its application for the Federal Prize.

This includes:

Nuremberg: Project "Raumkompass - Your space for culture"

The first of the projects is a placement office for art, cultural and creative professionals affected by space problems.

The project started in 2020 and has been in existence for over two years.

What is special about it is that free and urban actors work closely together.

The raumkompass.nuernberg.de website regularly publishes newsletters and posts on social media channels that provide insights into the work.

Interested owners have the opportunity to offer rooms on the platform.

It also offers guidance when looking for spaces for culture in Nuremberg.

Nuremberg: Nuremberg Association and Volunteer Academy project

Another project, which will run until the end of 2022, lays the foundations for a Nuremberg club and volunteer academy.

The offer is aimed at clubs, initiatives and associations (there are around 3,500 registered clubs in Nuremberg alone), as well as active volunteers (well over 100,000) and potential volunteers (160,000 other Nuremberg residents showed their interest in a survey stated).

The academy is intended to further improve the conditions for voluntary work in Nuremberg and to further develop the cooperative structures in order to continue to act as a cooperative city in the future.

Nuremberg: District coordination project

This term covers district networks, stakeholder participation and social space development in districts that are particularly in need of development. The focus of all those involved - inside and outside the city administration as well as from the population - is primarily the families in the neighborhoods. To this end, five coordinators are currently on the road in city districts. You and other actors are in contact with the residents. The “district sponsors” have an important function in this project. This includes corporations, foundations, and Rotary clubs. You are committed to the neighborhoods, both ideally and financially. Representatives from offices, daycare centers, social services, schools, youth centers, churches, associations and initiatives meet regularly in district working groups,to further promote diversity and cooperation.
