Members of the state parliament visit the production of Timber Homes and discuss the chances of wood as a building material for climate protection.

Dorfen

- Timber Homes has been producing wooden residential modules in Dorfen for a good two years.

On the occasion of this small birthday, the managing directors Robert Decker and Josef Huber showed members of the state parliament through the production hall.

At the meeting, the politicians discussed the chances of wood as a building material for climate protection.

"Wood can help to bind CO2 permanently," said the former Bavarian Environment Minister Marcel Huber.

This possibility is just not used so much in Bavaria, said the CSU member of the state parliament from Mühldorf. "Therefore, a change in the building regulations would also make sense in order to allow larger building heights in timber construction." Josef Schmid (CSU), Member of the Bundestag and former Mayor of Munich, emphasized that only a few areas could be built on in the state capital - and that often inevitably with high-rise buildings. One advantage of the modular design is the greatly reduced construction site traffic, especially in the city, according to Schmid. “We can build up to eight floors without any problems,” said Josef Huber.

The company was founded in early 2019 by the Dorfen property developer Decker and the timber construction company Huber & Sohn from Eiselfing in the Rosenheim district.

In the two years the company produced 250 apartments as well as residential and commercial modules with a total area of 10,000 square meters, reported Decker.

Components are prefabricated at Huber & Sohn and assembled at Timber Homes and equipped with the appropriate interior fittings and technology.

“The production hall is actually much too small,” said Josef Huber about the Dorfen location.

But at the start of the joint company, it was decided to stay under the much stricter requirements of the industrial building guidelines.

So far, Timber Homes has a capacity of around 250 room modules per year with its 35 employees. With the now planned changeover from one to two-shift operation, that will be more, explained Decker. He as a real estate entrepreneur and Huber as a timber builder had a number of challenges to master at the beginning. “We employ a lot of craftsmen and we have serial production,” says Decker. You had to bring that together first.

Timber Homes are also feeling the shortage of building materials, according to Decker.

“The location is absolutely horror.

But nothing is missing yet. ”The company processes regional wood from regional sawmills.

The supply is assured, added Josef Huber - but at high cost.

"The world market price is dictated by the USA." According to Huber, there is enough wood in Germany for its own market.

Exports from the EU would have to be stopped.

Decker has a new investment for the production of bathroom modules.

Badmodul is the name of the company that wants to set up a production facility in Dorfen.

"The building application is just being finished," reports the Dorfen entrepreneur about the project at the Timber Homes site.

Mayor Heinz Grundner noted this with satisfaction.

"The added value stays in the region."
